My cat has ringworm. Can it still be neutered, or should I wait?

It's best to wait until the ringworm infection is finished. While this infection would not cause significant problems with the surgery, it may delay the time that it takes for her to recover fro the infection. It will also make It difficult to bathe her. There are other anti-microbial options that could be considered in the meantime. If this very severe and cannot wait, you can check in with your veterinarian for alternatives. Hello, the deworming medication is safe to give prior to surgery as it does not directly interact with the common anesthetics. However, the deworming medication may cause diarrhea and an upset stomach. This can add stress at the time of surgery and perhaps cause a poor appetite post surgery. If you'd like to be completely safe, you can separate the both, however, your kitten should be fine to have both procedures done so close to one another. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor guy. You need to get him to a vet right away to have these areas flushed and then get him on a short course of antibiotics to prevent infection. Animal bites are notorious for getting infected because loads of bacteria live on pets teeth, which then migrates underneath the skin during the bite. Neutering your pet during this healing process is not an ideal time to do this; although, if your vet doesn't mind doing a quick snip at the same time to save from having to do two procedures, then go for it. I have seen several vets who will do this to help the owner out with expenses, plus a cat neuter takes literally 5-10 minutes to do. A neutered pet is less likely to get into so many fights outside, so there is an advantage to doing this right away.

I would keep the appointment and have your veterinarian proceed with an examination and determine if it would be safe to proceed with the procedure or not. Most veterinary clinics practice good hygeine to prevent infectious disease exposure so I think it would be unlikely. In a vet clinic two cats would not have contact with each other and would not be able to contact the same bedding or towels. Surfaces are disinfected between patients, and caution is used when handling animals if a zoonotic (transmissible to people) disease like ringworm was suspected. I would think it would be very unusual for Diva to be exposed.

Poor kitty. I would not recommend tying a rope to your kitten. Ringworm is typically only contagious in immune compromised people or the really young (children) or really old (senior). If you still have concerns about transmission then wear gloves when handling kitty and perhaps place kitty in a spare room until the skin lesions resolve. As far as the injection goes, I can't comment on whether it is ok to give again or not, because I don't know what the injection was. I honestly have only prescribed oral (by mouth) anti-fungal medication and topicals to treat ringworm. Please repost with the name of the injection that your kitty received and we can give you more information on whether it is safe or not. You may find the name of the medication on your invoice.
