Can I bathe my pet with a fungal infection soon after neuter surgery?

For routine bathing, I recommend waiting at least 10-14 days, or until the skin appears visibly healed. If Princess has managed to get herself quite dirty prior to this, you may wipe the area clean with a soapy wet towel (mild hand-washing dishsoap such as Dawn works well) - it's important to keep the area around the incision clean while it's healing, but I would wait until the incision is totally healed before immersing her in water. Hello, you should not bathe Batman for two weeks until his incision has healed. You would use a skin sensitive baby wipe to clean him off as long as you don't clean around his scrotum. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Personal preference, but it may be because the vet does not want to house a contagious cat. Ringworm is a very hardy fungus, and it can live on surfaces for an incredible amount of time. A kennel where they keep a cat before and after surgery would be contaminated with the fungus and could possibly spread it to the next patients to use it, even after a thorough cleaning and disinfectant. Also, some infections can delay healing of the skin. Since neutering isn't a medically necessary procedure, your vet likely would prefer him to be in tip-top shape before undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Hi, I don’t think it is a year infection but more a bacterial infection as yeasts don’t cause oozing of the skin. Regardless of this you could use a shampoo on the area that is affective against Yeats and bacteria, i.e. Malaseb shampoo. I would recommend that you give a ring to your vet and explain the problem and ask for a shampoo/product recommendation since he has been neutered 2 days ago. Explain that you are not going to use it on the wound but around the neck area. There also are Malaseb wipes, that are not as effective as the shampoo, but perhaps easier to use given the circumstances.

Just to be on the safe side I would recommend waiting a full another 4-5 days before bathing to allow the scab to fall off. Continue to monitor this area for any discharge or separation of the skin. Also that swelling on the left side should be evaluated by your vet if it doesn’t resolve, just to make sure it isn’t another hernia. Mild suture reactions just below the skin can also cause swelling, which is usually firm and doesn’t depress when pushing down on it. I hope this helps and best wishes with your pet Aspen. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Max should wear the plastic cone and not be bathed/groomed for 10-14 days. I wouldn't take it off at bed time if there is ANY chance he will lick his incision. It is better to be safe than sorry. He will be fine. Good luck

The operation to remove an infected uterus is major surgery. I would not contemplate bathing a dog until after the stitches come out at 14 days post op. If the dog is very dirty due to the pup you could gently wash the back end but no full emersion.
