Can my cat be spayed now if she has ringworm, or should I wait?

Personal preference, but it may be because the vet does not want to house a contagious cat. Ringworm is a very hardy fungus, and it can live on surfaces for an incredible amount of time. A kennel where they keep a cat before and after surgery would be contaminated with the fungus and could possibly spread it to the next patients to use it, even after a thorough cleaning and disinfectant. Also, some infections can delay healing of the skin. Since neutering isn't a medically necessary procedure, your vet likely would prefer him to be in tip-top shape before undergoing anesthesia and surgery.

Most veterinary clinics practice good hygeine to prevent infectious disease exposure so I think it would be unlikely. In a vet clinic two cats would not have contact with each other and would not be able to contact the same bedding or towels. Surfaces are disinfected between patients, and caution is used when handling animals if a zoonotic (transmissible to people) disease like ringworm was suspected. I would think it would be very unusual for Diva to be exposed.

Hello, the deworming medication is safe to give prior to surgery as it does not directly interact with the common anesthetics. However, the deworming medication may cause diarrhea and an upset stomach. This can add stress at the time of surgery and perhaps cause a poor appetite post surgery. If you'd like to be completely safe, you can separate the both, however, your kitten should be fine to have both procedures done so close to one another. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This does not look very concerning and it certainly would not be necessary to postpone her spay. Observe the lesion for spread. Let the vet know about it and have him check it for ringworm or a bacterial skin infection. If it is bacterial it is easily treated with antibiotics and if it is ringworm she will need antifungal medication. It also just may be a scrape that is healing now.

There are other anti-microbial options that could be considered in the meantime. If this very severe and cannot wait, you can check in with your veterinarian for alternatives. It can take 3-4 weeks to to a few months to clear a ring worm infection in a cat. Please make sure to also clean her bedding at home very well and give all medications as directed by her veterinarian. It is important to have her rechecked at the end of treatment to make sure the infection is resolved. Best of luck with kiwi.
