My kitten has a red oozing spot on shoulder after shots. Is it normal?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Female | spayed | 3 months and 23 days old | 2 lbs

Kitten got shots 2 days ago this morning she has a round red irritation on her right front upper shoulder area about the size of a quarter. It’s not raised it might be oozing a little but it’s hard to tell

Poor Beans (cutest name BTW)! If this is where she received her vaccine, she could be having a local reaction to the vaccine. It could also be an infection under the skin or a bacterial or fungal infection on the skin. You could try giving her beandryl twice a day to see if it improves. See link below. If it is getting worse (swelling, more hair loss, any discharge, not eating, etc) or just not improving, I would definitely have your vet take a look at it. She may need some antibiotics or anti-fungals to help her feel better. Plus, if it is a local reaction to the vaccine, your vet will want to make a note in her chart for her next set of shots. Poor girl. It looks like a puncture wound for sure. I don't suspect this is related to her vaccinations based on the photo. I would certainly want you to get her seen by an ER vet if the swelling continues, especially if it starts to form around her throat and interfere with her breathing. You can also try giving her some Benadryl for now to see if the swelling subsides. It typically takes several hours for Benadryl to take effect, so if things worsen in that time frame, it is best to get Moon Pie to an ER vet unfortunately.
I do hope that things either remain stable and don't get worse until the morning when your regular vet is open to take another look at Moon Pie. You can try a cold compress on the area for 5 minutes tonight also if she will be cooperative. Best of luck to you both and take care. : )

Soft masses that are part of the skin can be either abscesses (pockets of infection), small bits of swelling from vaccine injections (these can last a few months sometimes), fatty masses, and less commonly in a 4 month old kitten, cancers. I would monitor it, if Bean is painful or if it is growing or changing get it looked at right away, otherwise just monitor for now and have it assessed by your vet next time you are in. Looks like Bolinha is having a mild skin reaction perhaps to the vaccine, if it was injected in this area. This isn't considered normal but it is a reaction and it is best to notify your vet that this occurred. A pre-medicaiton can be given before this vaccine is given in the future to help avoid this from happening again. Unfortunately the hair may not grow back, but as long as he is not having any other symptoms (lethargy, not eating, vomiting) then he should be ok. An antihistamine injection through the vet can help stop the skin reaction fr continuing. Best of luck with Bolinha and I hope everything goes well.

There could be a few things that may have caused these spots on Beans. From the picture, it looks like it may be infected. You can apply a thin layer of Neosporin twice a day, but if it isn't better in a couple days, you should see a vet for additional medications. Possible initial causes for the irritation include mites, fleas, ringworm, a reaction to topically applied medications, or a wound caused by another cat. If you see Beans scratching this area with his back paws, it means it is very itchy - try to prevent him from further damaging the skin by covering the area with a small pet or baby shirt, or you can try to put socks on his feet.

Why does my cat have a small lump with a black dot after a vaccine?

It does not look like post-injection reaction. I would rather suspect an insect bite, reaction to a tick, cat bite (if Ori goes out at all) or self-inflicted small wound from scratching the area. Please, keep an eye on it, small skin wounds often heal rapidly without treatment. If there is any discharge from the wound you can use 4% chlorhexidine skin solution to clean it. If it gets bigger or starts bothering Ori, take her to your local vets for a check.

Hi, sorry to hear Keanu is having problem. This very well could be a type of vaccine reaction. I would monitor the site to see if it gets better or if a lump appears. If a lump appears, he should be taken back to the vet as this is serious. It could be an infection also, which may resolve on it's own or may need antibiotics. I hope he gets better!

Why is my 5-month-old cat losing fur between her shoulder blades?

I have seen this as a reaction to certain spot-on flea/tick treatments, vaccines and microchipping. If any of these were recently done, then I would be most suspicious of them being the cause. The skin appears a red, which indicates that something is irritating it and it appears oily, but I'm assuming that's from the antibiotic ointment. For now, it's best to just keep the area clean with a medicated cat shampoo. You can get this at the pet store. I would clean it once daily and not put the antibiotic cream on it. Use cool water when washing and rinsing to give some relief. You can stop the daily cleanings when the skin appears healthy again and the hair is obviously growing back. If the hair loss continues and the skin appears worse, then it's best to have a vet look at it, because it may need special treatment. I hope that helps and Phoebe gets better soon.

Depending on where the vaccinations were placed, this could be a vaccine reaction or an abscess from a cat bite. Seeing the vet is a good idea. The vet will clean up the area and determine what is going on, and may prescribe anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics.
