Why does my cat have a small lump with a black dot after a vaccine?

Oh my goodness. So sorry this happened! When the skin dies that is called necrosis and this does not look that way to me. With necrosis the skin turns black and usually has an infected odor. I think this is healing OK being that it has only been 3 day. I would personally give it more time. She should be on antibiotics for quite a while (about 2 weeks total) and I would use a strong topical antibiotic as well.

Hi, sorry to hear Keanu is having problem. This very well could be a type of vaccine reaction. I would monitor the site to see if it gets better or if a lump appears. Depending on where the vaccinations were placed, this could be a vaccine reaction or an abscess from a cat bite. Seeing the vet is a good idea. The vet will clean up the area and determine what is going on, and may prescribe anti-inflammatories and/or antibiotics.

It does need to be noted with your vet to verify if it is a vaccine reaction. Cats can have injection induced sarcomas which are cancer and require surgery. The general rule is if it is there longer than 3 months or gets larger, then surgery is warranted, otherwise they go away on their own I would have them document the vaccine site and the size for proper monitoring in the future.

It sounds like Coco is having a local vaccine reaction. Yes that could be due to a injection site reaction most likely. This type of skin reaction is usually self limiting and fur most of the times grows back.
