Why is my cat's skin hard at the vaccine injection site a week later?

It does not look like post-injection reaction. I would rather suspect an insect bite, reaction to a tick, cat bite (if Ori goes out at all) or self-inflicted small wound from scratching the area. Please, keep an eye on it, small skin wounds often heal rapidly without treatment. If there is any discharge from the wound you can use 4% chlorhexidine skin solution to clean it. If it gets bigger or starts bothering Ori, take her to your local vets for a check.

It sounds like Coco is having a local vaccine reaction. You should contact your vet and see if they want to examine him or if they would be able to prescribe medications, and if they agree it’s a vaccine reaction they might recommend medication prior to vaccines in the future. I doubt it’s related to the trouble giving the vaccine - it’s pretty common for the needle to slip out when giving injections to wiggly dogs and cats.

It does need to be noted with your vet to verify if it is a vaccine reaction. Cats can have injection induced sarcomas which are cancer and require surgery. The general rule is if it is there longer than 3 months or gets larger, then surgery is warranted, otherwise they go away on their own I would have them document the vaccine site and the size for proper monitoring in the future.

Hello, sorry to hear about Toe. Occasionally with injections, they may develop inflammation and pain in the area for up to 3-5 days. If the swelling does not resolve then he should be seen by his veterinarian to ensure Toe is not having a reaction to the vaccine that would warrant further medical intervention. Normally, there will be a small bump where a vaccination is given and this can persist for several weeks to months. If it persists for longer than 3 months and / or continues to grow in size, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Simba so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendation can be made. Sometimes, vaccines can cause cancerous tumors to grow in the area where the vaccine was administered. This is less common now, but still a risk. I hope this helps! Oh my goodness. So sorry this happened! When the skin dies that is called necrosis and this does not look that way to me. With necrosis the skin turns black and usually has an infected odor. I think this is healing OK being that it has only been 3 day. I would personally give it more time. She should be on antibiotics for quite a while (about 2 weeks total) and I would use a strong topical antibiotic as well.
