What's causing my 13-week-old kitten's irritated bald neck patch?

This is very suspicious of ringworm (a fungal infection of the skin). This could also be due to a yeast or bacteria infection, but it's much more likely to be ringworm. . It's best to get it diagnosed by a veterinarian, because ringworm can spread to different parts of the body and can spread to other animals and people. Also, the more involved the infection, the longer it will take to clear. Ace will need prescription antifungal medication in order to clear this and will also need medicated baths. For now, I recommend separating Ace from your other animals and washing your hands anytime you touch him. Your veterinarian will be able to get you some more info at the time of exam. This looks like it could be irritation from rubbing/scratching at the eye, a skin infection, mites, ringworm, or a hypersensitivity reaction (often to fleas, mosquitos, etc). If you have an E-collar, put that on so he can’t continue to scratch at it. Then book the next available appointment with your vet to help determine what is most likely the cause. Poor Beans (cutest name BTW)! If this is where she received her vaccine, she could be having a local reaction to the vaccine. It could also be an infection under the skin or a bacterial or fungal infection on the skin. You could try giving her beandryl twice a day to see if it improves. See link below. If it is getting worse (swelling, more hair loss, any discharge, not eating, etc) or just not improving, I would definitely have your vet take a look at it. The black spots could be due to flea dirt, and scratching the area could cause the bald spot. Fleas don't live on the cat, they actually live in the environment. They just jump on the cat to feed and then jump off, so he could have fleas even if you don't see any. Make sure he is up to date on his flea treatments if he's not. Should he be up to date on his flea treatments, then this could be due to an injury (the black spots could be dirt), or an infection of the skin. In this case, you have two options. You could take him into the vet to get it examined and diagnosed, or you could watch it. Should you chose to watch it, take him into the vet if it gets bigger, appears infected, or starts to bother him. I don't think any immediate treatment is needed should you chose to watch the area. Hair loss is that area could be a few things. If you are using a topical flea medication and applying it there, that could be the cause. Cats can also get skin mites, allergies or ringworm (which humans can get), or an injury. Could the dried blood be from her scratching with her hind paw? From the photos, I don't appreciate any hair loss around the ears. Minor wounds can often heal on their own. Monitor the lesion closely, if it doesn't begin healing within a week or if it starts looking worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. Also make sure she is not scratching at the area. This does look like irritation, possibly due to an allergy or something such as an external parasite (fleas, ticks, etc). I would make sure Skyler is up to date on any flea preventives and check him and his environment for any signs of them. Environmental and food allergies can also cause irritation such as this, and a diet change or visit to your vet may help find the underlying cause as well as provide you with some medication to give Skyler some relief. In the meantime, I would keep any affected areas clean and dry, and use an Elizabethan (cone) collar if needed to keep Skyler from licking or chewing to avoid any secondary bacteria from getting under the skin.
