My outdoor cat eats prey. Are raw eggs a complete diet for him?

The ideal diet for an adult cat is a balanced commercial cat food. I would purchase one and start offering it as feeding four eggs a day is not a balanced diet and likely not enough nutrition or calories for a cat to sustain itself. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Raw beef is missing other key vitamins and minerals that kittens need to develop so I do not recommend feeding that alone. I would try canned kitten food and put it on a plate so she can stand in it and eat it. I think that if he is doing well on his current food (the Hill's or the Natural Balance) then they are fine to continue. It is unlikely changing his diet will change his habit of killing birds/rabbits/rodents. It in not likely due to hunger it is likely something he enjoys (as awful as that may sound to us!) and is a natural behavior for him. I don't normally recommend raw diets as there are risks when handling raw meat to the animal and to the owner (such as salmonella and e. coli). I think if you want him to stop killing you will have to either keep him inside, let him out in an enclosure, or you can try putting a bell on his collar in an attempt to warn off small critters (just be sure that it is a quick-release collar so he doesn't get himself hung on something and choke).

It’s ok if you are feeding them as “treats” as long as they are cooked and not raw. It is not necessarily “good” to do. The main part of any kitten/cat’s diet should be a food formulated for kittens/cats.

Wild cats are NOT domestic cats, and domesticated cats have very different nutritional needs. Wild cats also do not live as long and may have health issues related to poor nutrition. And while cats ARE obligate carnivores, they cannot get all their nutritional needs from only feeding one type of food (IE only chicken breast) as it doesn't provide a complete amino acid or nutritional profile for your cat. This is why many home-formulated diets require several ingredients and nutritional supplements to balance. It is important to feed your cat a balanced diet in order to prevent nutritional deficiencies, such as taurine deficiencies, which can lead to blindness, organ dysfunction or even death if not addressed. Commercial cat foods are best (and cheaper than formulating your own diet which may require several different ingredients and supplements to provide the right nutrient balance) as they provide your cat with the correctly formulated nutrients to prevent illness or deficiency. If you do want to feed a homemade diet, I highly recommend working with a veterinarian in person in order to formulate a diet for Meo's specific nutritional needs. Otherwise, feeding a commercial cat food will be the easiest, and least expensive option while still providing the right nutritional balance to keep him healthy.

Feeding her just eggs would not be a balanced diet for your dog. If you think she has a food allergy then you would need to feed her a novel protein (venison, duck, kangaroo, and rabbit are examples of novel protein sources or a hydrolyzed protein) You could use prescription diet z/d or d/d. You would need to feed the only diet for 6-8 weeks and monitor for improvement.

Home prepared diets can be successfully fed to cats but it is important to fully research in order to provide all of the necessary nutrients in appropriate amounts to prevent over or undersupply of nutritional needs. IT is important to consult a trained nutritionist such as the Tufts University clinic which provide a range of well balanced recipes for home prepared food. A complete and balanced prepared diet should be fed with occasional treats otherwise
