My cat hunts and kills prey. Will a raw diet stop this behavior?

This is common for cats who hunt outdoors. Unfortunately, there is not a lot you can do except either keep him in (or out) or keep him in a easily cleaned area (with tile or wood perhaps). Perhaps he could be outdoors all day and indoors at night so that he keeps the vomiting outside. You can even start feeding him his food outside if that will help. Best of luck to you and Jhumru!

It is indeed a very nutrient type of diet, but it is not a complete food at all. I would recommend to give a basic commercial diet, which is usually more balanced and then as supplements the eggs could be ok. Its very difficult to train a cat to eat on a schedule different than what her body tells her. There may be some raw based diets in the form of a kibble or a dehydrated formula. They may keep better than the form you are offering Lulu. In the wild cats eat 9-16 times a day so thats what her body naturally wants to do. I would recommend to look into other food options. I don’t recommend raw food diets as they can be very difficult to formulate, balance and also to safely provide without risk of gastrointestinal infection from contaminated meat. I would suggest a home prepared diet if you are interested in avoiding mainstream packaged food brands. Here is a link explain what a Home prepares siet it. Yes, you are correct that Finnegan can get sick from rats and birds. Cats can get tapeworms and leptospirosis from eating rats, and can get salmonella from eating birds. It's not normal for a cat to vomit so frequently, so I would have him seen by a vet for a health check about that. Since he's allowed outside, it would be impossible to keep him from eating rats and birds unless you find a way to keep him confined to the yard. You can build a cat sanctuary where he can play and lounge outside, but it will keep him from hunting. Your other choice is to keep him indoors all the time. I hope this helps!

The best thing you can do to cut down on Oliver’s interest in roaming is to neuter him and keep him inside at all times if it is feasible. If you do want him to be an indoor/outdoor cat then I would not worry too much about him missing his meals. He may be hunting while outside and/or being feed by others while he is out. As long as you consistently offer him food at your home he will always come back. I would not recommend leaving his food outside though, as this could cause you to have unwanted visitors, like stray cats and wild animals, at your home. Keep in mind that if you continue to allow Oliver access to the outside he will need certain vaccinations to keep him from contracting other diseases. I hope this helps.
