My cat just had kittens and is pregnant again. What should I do?

The way to prevent pregnancy is to have her spayed, if not keep her indoors and spay any males that could come in contact with her. Male surgery is normally less invasive and cheaper and perhaps something to consider if kittens are newborns.In 6 weeks time you could have her neutered. Cats are often going into heat within 2 weeks after weaning the kittens. The discharge is called lochia and can last several weeks after the kittens are born. I recommend spaying these cats right around the time the kittens are weaned, or within that 2 week period after, to insure they do not get bred again. They can go back in to heat, if it’s the right time of year right, around when the kittens are weaned. Rhis is normal biology for cats. They are recovered by then. Spaying Tabby is the only way to terminate her pregnancy. If you decide to have her spayed, I would recommend doing so sooner rather than later. If you decide allow her possible pregnancy to continue and want to avoid future pregnancies, please have her spayed as soon as her kittens have weaned.
