My new cat has a wet, oozing eye. Can I bathe her before the vet?

The eye does look a little irritated and like there is some hair loss. With any new pet, it's always best to schedule an initial wellness check with your vet anyway, so it would be a good idea to schedule one and also bring up the eye during your visit.

Oreo seems to have an infection. We cannot rule out a corneal ulcer just by looking at the picture. Cats often have upper respiratory tract infection, and develop conjunctivitis and I discharge because of it. Take Oreo to your veterinarian for a detailed exam that possibly will include staining the cornea to rule out ulcers. I forsee you will have to give eye meds at least twice a day or more depending on the physical findings. How lovely of you to rescue Koya! You can use a wash cloth soaked in warm water to remove any discharge and crusts from her eyes. It's never recommended to use any OTC eye treatments on a cat's eyes. This is because a cat's eye will react differently to it than a human's eye, and you could potentially do serious damage to her eyes. The vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment for her. I always lean toward being more careful with eye conditions. Even though you could likely wait 5 days, I would probably go to the emergency vet if it was my cat. And it is likely uncomfortable for Roxie, so I would like to get it treated. Eye conditions can become very severe very quickly, so I would have it evaluated sooner rather than later. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! He is adorable! The eye could have suffered some damage perhaps caused by trauma requiring medical or even surgical help. The diarrhea could be perhaps due to parasites. I highly recommend that you have your kitty evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment which may include eye drops and anti-diarrhea medications.
