My new rescue cat has crusty, draining eyes. What can I do?

The eye does look a little irritated and like there is some hair loss. With any new pet, it's always best to schedule an initial wellness check with your vet anyway, so it would be a good idea to schedule one and also bring up the eye during your visit.

I highly recommend that you have Rissoto evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment as this looks severe. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Tom. The discharge and crusting you describe could be signs of an eye infection. Kittens are prone to getting eye infections secondary to a viral infection. You could try gently wiping some of the crusts away with a warm facecloth/towel. If the discharge continues and is significant enough that it prevents him from opening his eye fully I would recommend having Tom seen by a veterinarian so that they can perform an ocular examination and prescribe antibiotics if needed. It could be that Honeycomb is suffering from an eye infection or allergies causing his symptoms. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take Honeycomb into a vet immediately. The vet can diagnose what is causing his eye symptoms and treat him for it.

This is a classic presentation of a cat with an upper respiratory disease. These are often due to a virus that is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own - much like a cold with people). It looks like Kuon has an eye infection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for him at home other than keeping the eye clean and wiping away any discharge. You will need to get antibiotic ointment from a veterinarian to help your kitten get better. There is no other way to get an antibiotic.

It may be normal drainage but at this point it has caused a skin infection which needs to be treated with antibiotics. there might also be an eye infection there, it's not possible to tell from the picture, but if this is the case Kimber will also need antibiotic eyedrops. bottom line- you need to take him back to the vet in order to get these treatments.
