My cat doesn't pee all day. Is this normal or a kidney concern?

Cats are really good at conserving water, so they can be normal and pee only once a day. As long she is acting normal and eating normal, I would not be too concerned. A lack of urine production can be seen with acute kidney failure, but she would have other obvious signs of illness (i.e. vomiting). It's best for her to drink more and urinate more to prevent infections and early kidney failure. You can help promote drinking by putting water in the good, or giving a little broth of fish juice with her food. I hope that helps and all is well with Tiffany.

There is no correct answer to this question. Some cats urinate only twice a day and others more. There is not necessarily a problem. It may cause him a problem if he holds his urine too long; he can get a UTI, kidney failure, bladder rupture, etc.. Can you not move the litter box back to the original position? That would be my recommendation.

Have Moose examined tonight by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. A cat that is not urinating or is unable to urinate should be considered a veterinary emergency. An exam and testing may diagnose another urinary tract infection or a urinary obstruction. Blood work can be submitted to assess major organ function, especially kidney function. Treatment will depend on the diagnosis.

No this would not be completely normal and may be an indication of urinary tract inflammation. Increasing water/fluid intake by feeding a wet food is very helpful and ensure any dry food is formulated to reduce crystals and urinary issues such as a specialist neutered cat or urinary formula. Monitor closely for any pain, discomfort, increased frequency or blood which would need veterinary treatment. Severe cases can end up with complete obstruction so prevention is best

Cat's are good at concentrating their urine and holding it for long periods of time. The only time I would get concerned about them not being able to urinate is in cases of an obstruction, or acute renal failure. In both cases there would be other signs. In renal failure they would act sick - less active, not eating, vomiting. In cases of obstruction the cat would be restless and seen straining to urinate throughout the day. If Theo is otherwise acting normal, then I wouldn't be worried. If he does show any of the signs above, then it would be an emergency and I'd reccomend taking him to the vet as soon as possible. I would say that that would not be typical. It sounds like quite a bit of ruination. Have you noticed if he’s drinking more water? If he’s drinking more water and urinating more that could be an indication of an underlying problem like diabetes. He should really see your vet for an exam and some blood/urine testing.

As long as Nancy does not repeatedly go into her litter box trying to urinate and not producing any urine, I would not worry about it yet. If she tries to urinate often and there is no urine, then she may have a UTI and needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam. She will also need to be seen by a vet if she does not produce any urine at all by tomorrow.
