My 6-month-old cat's peeing less. Could holding urine cause problems?

Cats are really good at conserving water, so they can be normal and pee only once a day. As long she is acting normal and eating normal, I would not be too concerned. A lack of urine production can be seen with acute kidney failure, but she would have other obvious signs of illness (i.e. vomiting). It's best for her to drink more and urinate more to prevent infections and early kidney failure. You can help promote drinking by putting water in the good, or giving a little broth of fish juice with her food. I hope that helps and all is well with Tiffany.

If you want him to urinate more often, you need to get him to drink more water or eat canned cat food. What goes in must come out. Animals won't hold it longer than they need to unless they can't urinate at all. If he can urinate, he will do it as often as his body needs to.

Sometimes that can be true. Although infections, crystals in the urine, bladder stones, basically anything that causes irritation to the bladder can also cause this. In general, bladder inflammation is the more common reason that cats will only urinate small quantitates. Since it hurts, they will urinate more frequently. I hope this helps!

It certainly sounds like Lolo could have a urinary tract issue as urinating in small amounts without producing much is definitely abnormal. I would take her to your vet. They may want to check her urine for infection and take an x-ray to check for bladder stones. Often cats don't have UTIs but still can have bladder inflammation. If Lumi is only passing small amounts of urine he could have cystitis (bladder inflammation), crystals in his urine, bladder stones or even a UTI. Since Lumi is a male cat he has the risk of obstructing and not being able to urinate at all. A urinary obstruction is life threatening. I recommend that he see a Vet today to relieve his discomfort and prevent it from worsening. I hope this helps and I wish Lumi the best!

If she has a good appetite and is having normal BMs and is active, she is likely passing urine. It is probably a small amount each time it gets lost in the litter box or is missed with the BM so it is hard to tell the difference. I would confine her and make sure she is not using the bathroom outside of the litter box.
