My cat isn't peeing in the new litter. When should I be concerned?

Yes, I would be very concerned that Baby hasn't peed in two days. She could have peed elsewhere in the house from the stress of having all the company in the home, or she could be blocked from bladder stones. I would take her into a vet right away if you can't find any place in the home where she might have peed. It's not normal for a cat to not pee for two days, and if she is blocked from bladder stones, that is a medical emergency.

No this would not be completely normal and may be an indication of urinary tract inflammation. Increasing water/fluid intake by feeding a wet food is very helpful and ensure any dry food is formulated to reduce crystals and urinary issues such as a specialist neutered cat or urinary formula. Monitor closely for any pain, discomfort, increased frequency or blood which would need veterinary treatment. Severe cases can end up with complete obstruction so prevention is best

If you want him to urinate more often, you need to get him to drink more water or eat canned cat food. What goes in must come out. Animals won't hold it longer than they need to unless they can't urinate at all. If he can urinate, he will do it as often as his body needs to.

I'v occasionally seen my cats having an extremely long urination, i guess this is just like us, once in a while we will have a longer than usual urination. as long as it doesn't happen on a regular basis and no other symptoms are present (such as increase thirst for example) then it's probably nothing to worry about.

Hello. I hesitate to recommend anything just yet since you say she seems to be fine. If she was unable to urinate, she would be crying, painful, trying to posture & strain to urinate in the litter box. Unfortunately, it may be possible that she is urinating elsewhere, perhaps in the back of a closet or on a pile of laundry. I assume she is also an indoor only cat. Just watch her for now, & if there are any indications that she is having difficulties in the litter box, or she seems to be licking her vaginal area excessively, try to push fluids to her by adding a little extra water to her canned food ( remove the dry for now ) & encouraging her to drink by offering low sodium broths or stock along with very fresh water. As long as Nancy does not repeatedly go into her litter box trying to urinate and not producing any urine, I would not worry about it yet. If she tries to urinate often and there is no urine, then she may have a UTI and needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam. She will also need to be seen by a vet if she does not produce any urine at all by tomorrow.

Hello, and thanks for your question about Papoose. I can tell you're worried about Papoose's well being, and it's great that you're keeping such a close watch on him! When a cat has a urinary blockage or obstruction, typically owners notice a lot of non-productive straining in the litterbox (and often while crying), and a cat with a urinary blockage gets quite sick very quickly. So, if you're not seeing any of those symptoms, and if Papoose is acting normal and eating & drinking normally, then I wouldn't be too concerned, especially if your vet has already done a recheck exam and thought he looked good. You are absolutely right - if Papoose is able to do spray marking, then his urine flow is doing fine. If you continue to be concerned, it might be worth one more quick recheck with your vet to make sure his bladder continues to be comfortably small (a cat with a blockage gets a firm, large, painful bladder within a day) - and if he continues to look great to your vet, then I would conclude that he probably just isn't needing to urinate very often, and he might be pretty stealthy about doing it!
