My 5-month-old cat has lumps near nipples. Is it her first heat?

Hello, I noticed the other day that my 5 month old Siamese mix has small lumps/masses on the underside of her belly. Some lumps are around her nipples. I know its possible that she is going into her first heat, but I don't know if these lumps have anything to do with that. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks!

If the nipples are more pronounced, and the area around them is enlarged, and she’s acting strangely then she’s probably coming into heat. You’ll know by her overly friendly or different behavior. If not then I recommend having your veterinarian examine these to determine the reason and prescribe treatment if needed. Why does my unspayed female kitten have lumps under her nipples?

My guess is that it is just hormone related hyperplasia. The other option is mastitis - it may be just starting. I would just keep an eye on it since she is acting otherwise normal. If after a couple weeks they lumps are still present you should have her examined by your vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

You can be advised if they are anything to worry about for her. Older cats will develop mammary growths, but this would be unusual in such a young kitten. What's wrong with a stray cat's lumpy stomach and dark nipples?

Hello, it looks like the cat may be currently nursing. Other causes for enlarged mammary glands include benign mammary hyperplasia. It she is not nursing, then you can expect the mammary glands to decrease in size over the next 3-5 days. If this does not occur, then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps

My spayed kitten has enlarged, soft breasts, but no lumps. Why?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is likely mammary gland hyperplasia which is benign growth of the breast tissue in cats. It can happen after the cat is spayed if they ovulated and were recently in heat before the surgery. It is secondary to hormonal influence. It should resolve on it's own. I hope this helps!
