How to keep my cat with past nerve damage safe in cold weather?

If it is cold for you, it is probably cold for her. Just make sure she has a way to get out of the cold by going into the garage or a warm spot outside. You could set up an insulated cat bed by cutting a hole in an ice chest (use google for other diy winter cat beds). You can also play with her throughout the day. Use various toys like a laser pointer, toys on a stick, feather toys, bell toys, etc. Playing in the snow is also a type of stimulation she may enjoy.

I would definitely provide a heat source for them in the winter, especially if it is going to hit freezing temperatures. I worry about hypothermia if there is no heat source. I would also provide an insulated area for them. Small dog houses can be built quite easily and still be low cost. There are many templates online of how to build a dog house with insulation. Dog beds, blankets and another dog to keep warm with would help as well. If the temperature are too low outside, it is not advisable to keep them outdoors as this could result in hypothermia and even lead to death. I hope this helps! My outdoor cat has an insulated cat house that he uses when it's cold out. As long as you provide a small space with bedding that is protected from the wind and rain Zeus should be fine outside during the winter. Make sure he has food twice daily and fresh water. I would provide a box outside near where you are feeding her so that she will be more likely to hang around. As she gets more comfortable with you and more used to human contact, you may eventually be able to keep her inside the garage and then eventually inside the house. Some cats who already have a taste of outside can be difficult to keep strictly indoors and might constantly try to escape.

I agree that a high temp like that could be a bacterial infection but it can also be a protozoal infection, pain from a clot or back injury, or even cancer. It is unlikely to be kidney disease in my opinion but bloodwork is needed to be certain. I’d take her to an emergency clinic right away for a second opinion. Next steps would be bloodwork including an FIV/FeLV screen and xrays to make sure she didn’t break a bone or have some other obvious problem. Best wishes to you and Nova.

Many people will use a styrofoam cooler with a hole cut out to hold in the heat. Provide fresh food and water. Make the food a high quality such as Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan or Iams. Certainly you can have this cat vaccinated, treated for parasites and even spay/neutered. Outdoor cats can produce many kittens, they can also act as a source of fleas and intestinal worms, cats who are not fixed can also be more prone to fighting and getting injured. Many cities offer programs to help spay, neuter and vaccinate homeless cats and I recommend to look into one of these. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It could be. I had a plate in my arm (I broke my humerus falling off my horse), and when it would get cold, the arm would ache from the plate. I had to have the plate removed because it was bothering me so much. With cats, the plate typically isn't removed, but you can talk to Sonny's vet to see if they feel some pain medication may help him. I'd also set up a bed with a heating pad under it (make sure it's well covered so it doesn't burn him) to see if that helps him.
