My cat can't walk, has a fever, and is twitching. Is it an emergency?

Kasia sounds very ill, and I would consider her symptoms a medical emergency. She needs veterinary care now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Hello and thank you very much for your question. With the history that you were giving me, I worried that there may be a puncture wound or abscess formation on the left rear leg. Another possibility would be that we have hurt our leg somehow and the pain associated has caused the temperature to rise. Nevertheless, with a temperature that high, your pet needs to see the veterinarian as soon as possible to get a correct diagnosis and treatment started. If there were not a fever associated, I would tell you to wait for 24 to 48 hours with complete rest of the cat with no movement. But because of the fever, you do need to see a veterinarian. Yes i would take her in to a clinic. Mobile vets are limited in what they can do diagnostically and treatment wise for sick pets. These sound like concerning symptoms. They can assess for a fever, dehydration, and pain. Likely bloodwork, felv/fiv testing, and xrays will be recommended as the first steps. Difficulty walking could be a sign of neurologic disease, and infection would be a concern for a cat Fluff's age. Some parasites like toxoplasmosis can cause neurologic disease, as can viruses like the feline immunodeficiency virus. Difficulty walking could also be related to trauma but this might be more obvious on an exam. If the labs are not conclusive, a referral to a neurology specialist might be recommended as sometimes advanced diagnostics like an MRI and/or spinal tap are necessary for a diagnosis. If she continues to eat and drink normally and does not seem painful I'd wait for test results to come back and discuss the next step with your veterinarian.

Poor Nova! A kitten this young with a fever can have a number of different problems going on. If she is having trouble defecating, she could have either diarrhea or constipation issues, as both conditions can look the same in kittens and cause them to be uncomfortable and vocalize when they defecate. If she is from a feral litter, and her litter mates did not survive, I would be very concerned about a possible infection or congenital problem going on. She likely has intestinal parasites, given her history, and needs to be dewormed. At 4 months, she should be started on a vaccine schedule as well, if she hasn't been already. I would recommend you take her in to your vet to be evaluated. She could still have an undulating fever that needs to be treated with supportive care and potentially antibiotics for a potential infection. I would also recommend testing her for FIV (feline aids) and Feline leukemia, which usually can be done quickly in a hospital with a few drops of blood. This is a sign that the disease is more serious than previously thought, you must take Odie back to your vet today, he will need to have a blood test done and the medications will need to be changed, if this is an infection he will need to take antibiotics for at least a week.

The temperature itself isn’t an emergency, but it is definitely a fever. If he goes outdoors I would start feeling all over for an abscess from a fight. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon, but as long as there are no other clinical signs such as difficulty breathing etc then I think having him seen by your veterinarian tomorrow is appropriate.
