Why is my cat meowing so much after losing his friend and getting a kitten?

Our pets experience grief and loss, and just like people, it takes them a variable amount of time to deal with that loss. If Brostom was very close with the other cat, he might benefit from having another cat in the home to keep him company. If you decide to pursue this, I recommend a slow introduction and keeping the new cat in a separate room for a few days where they can smell each other under the door. If this increases Brostom's agitation, then it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying. I hope this helps.

It's possible Ginger is responding due to the changes in the household. To help her cope, keep her on a routine, set aside 30 minutes a day for playtime and give her lots of attention. Monitor her closely for any signs of illness and have her examined if needed. Most cats will get back to normal within a few weeks. When one of a bonded pair dies, the other cat can mourn. Good on you for making sure Tapioca is healthy by having him see a vet. He may be lonely. I would consider getting another cat (if you are ready!), this may help.

I'm so sorry your kitten died recently! Cats do mourn when they lose a companion, and it could be that Harry is mourning the loss of the kitten. I would give him lots of extra love and attention during this time. Cats do not mourn as long as humans do, and his behavior should be back to normal soon. Now, if Harry continues to act differently for more than a couple more days, then this change in behavior could be due to a medical problem, and I would have him seen by a vet. Maybe one day, when you are ready, you could consider getting another companion for Harry.

If Milla started meowing when you put your other cat down I would recommend making sure you spend as much time as possible with her. I would find toys that she really enjoys and play with her. Make sure she has a place she can sit on and look out a window and places to hide in. If non of this works then I would bring her to the veterinarian to rule out anything medical. If she has a clean bill of health and you feel that this is affecting her day to day life then you can discuss medication options with your veterinarian. It can take your kitten a week or two to acclimate to its new surroundings. He has to get used to his new environment and used to the fact that he's not around his littermates and mother anymore. Just keep giving him plenty of attention and affection and he should be fine in no time.

Poor Fettuccine! He could be more vocal because he misses Jack and it may take some time for him to adjust. You could try a Feliway diffuser or spray and see if that helps.
