Why is my new kitten crying? How long to adjust to his new home?

Congrats on your new kitten! It's very good that she is eating, drinking, and uses her litter box. It will take her time to adjust to her new place, as moving to a new home is stressful. She is showing she is adjusting by eating, drinking, and using the litter box. I would give her attention as much as possible, playing with her and showing her love. This will make the adjustment less stressful, and show her that her new home is a comfortable place to live. I'd also get her a cat tree and set it up by a window. She can use it as a scratching post, and can sit on the levels to look out the window. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

In my opinion, it is too early to be trying to do any sort of training with this kitten. She is very very young and in a brand new place for only one day. She needs time to adjust to her new surroundings, the abscence of the mother cat and litter mates and it can all be very scary for her. Give her time to become comfortable in her new home, gain some confidence and readdress this issue in a few weeks. By then, she will be more confident and not as needy.

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Tom's mother. He could be crying due to many reasons' including an upset stomach, not eating enough, not eating the right thing, being cold or having trouble using the bathroom. I'm not sure if you just got Rhenso, but if you did, moving into a new home is stressful for a kitten, and he could be expressing that stress via vocalization. He would also be lonely and crying out for love and attention. Finally, it could be due to a medical problem, such as pain, and to rule that out, I would have him seen by a vet. After a medical cause if rule out, the vet can discuss behavioral treatment with you for his vocalization.

Crying can be because he’s hungry, cold, or has to go potty. Make sure you are feeding him often enough with kitten milk replacer if he is not nursing his mother. Stimulating him to pee and poop with a warm damp cloth around his tail should be done several times a day to keep him regular. Kittens can die quickly if they get cold so make sure he is snuggled in a warm place or with another animal. This is very common when you bring in a new cat into an environment. A lot of it is jealousy but also being territorial. I would make sure you have multiple litter boxes. I would also try to get some feliway diffusers to put around the house. Feliway is a cat pheromone which sometimes helps to calm them but not always. Also, give it some time. It sometimes takes several weeks for them to start playing and becoming tolerant of each other. If after a 4-6 weeks you are still having a lot of problems, I would talk to your vet about starting Coco on an anti-anxiety medicine to help calm her or consider finding a home for one of the kittens.
