Why is my cat acting strange after Advantage flea treatment?

It's not likely to be a symptom of the fleas but it could be a symptom of the flea treatment you use, some of them can cause a side effect of lethargy and lack of appetite which usually does not last more than 24 hours. if by tomorrow Jax is not better, i would recommend taking him to your vet to get checked and treated.

Yes I would be concerned, as this can be a sign of flea treatment toxicity. I would put her into a bath immediately, and gently wash the treatment off with water water and Dawn dish soap. Continue to monitor her for signs of toxicity, including vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors, hyper salivation, and depression. If you see any of those signs, take her into your vet immediately. I would make sure that the flea treatment you put on Annie was for cats and not for dogs, as it's very important to have a cat dose for cats because they are so sensitive to the flea medication. I would wait a few days before reapplying a flea treatment, and I would use a different brand than what you just used. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution.

There are possible reactions associated with any medication or preventative product given to an animal though this would be an unusual reaction to a topical flea preventative like Bravecto. If the skin around at the site it was administered looks normal (not irritated or inflamed) and she is otherwise doing well, I would continue to watch her for now and have her evaluated by your veterinarian tomorrow if no improvement. If she appears to be too different to what she normally is, have her evaluated tonight to ensure she is not having an unusual reaction to the Bravecto. I think she is likely reacting to the application of the product because she can feel something in her skin that she is not used to rather than having a complication. Those black spots could be flea dirt or areas of yeast as well. The bald spots could be from skin irritation, self trauma from itching or even another infection called ringworm. The lethargy is concerning as usually Advantage does not cause that change. However fleas can cause anemia even in adult cats as well as transmit bacterial infections that can make a cat very sick. If Mama remains lethargic she needs to get checked out by a veterinarian, sooner if her gums are pale or discolored.

Advantage treatment is a good start. If your kitty has flea allergies it is necessary to keep fleas from biting her. So: Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian (Advantage is fine) and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust. Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.

As long as Sushi's behavior is normal and the only sign you are seeing is the change in color of the fur I wouldn't worry too much. I would consider changing to a different formulation of flea control, like a collar or oral (i.e. Seresto, Comfortis). If you continue with topical medication you want to make sure that you are getting the medication on the skin only. I know this can be difficult because there is so much in those vials. You can part the hair a little further up her neck toward her head to give you more working room.

There could be something else causing this weird reaction besides fleas. I would try a different flea preventative like advantage or comfortis (oral) to see if this makes a difference (if you have this in your area). You could also try benadryl (diphenhydramine) twice a day or just an hour before she goes outside to see if this helps. See link below. You could also look up hyperesthesia.
