My cat might have eaten ibuprofen. Will symptoms show after 16 hours?

Oh dear! Ibuprofen is quite toxic to cats, and can cause severe stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, and even kidney failure depending on the dose ingested. Since Buddy is having symptoms of a problem and seems very uncomfortable, I would definitely recommend taking him to an emergency vet right away. He/she can do some blood work to determine how serious the problem may be, and will probably also recommend hospitalization for IV fluids, stomach protectants, and supportive care for the next day or two to try and minimize the damage.

Ibuprofen intoxication can cause stomach upset, ulceration in the stomach and, if ingested in larger amounts, problems with kidneys. Typically, the symptoms occur within 24-48hrs from ibuprofen ingestion, so if you dog ate the pill 5 days ago, most likely everything is fine. As long as she is not having any gastrointestinal signs at present (no vomiting, no blood in stools, good appetite) and she is passing urine as normal, most likely there is nothing to worry about.

It depends on the size of the piece of onion, but this normally would not be enough to cause toxicity, so I wouldn't worry too much. The biggest concern with onion toxicity is that it destroys the red blood cells. This takes a few days to happen though. You may notice vomiting when they first eat the onion, but other signs of toxicity won't be obvious until 2-5 days later. Signs of onion toxicity are a dramatic decrease in activity and pale gums. If you notice this, then it's best to have Tabbi seen by a vet as soon as possible. If he ingested it last Wednesday is not showing any symptoms I would not be worried. Lisinopril can be given to cats. Of course I don't know what dose he ate but you would have seen side effects by now if it was going to be a problem. Pioglitazone is not used widely in cats but there is a study that shows it can be given to cats and was effective to increase insulin sensitivity. They didn't show any side effects at the dose given. Whether he ate your dose and it was a toxic level, I don't know. Phentermine and Lamotrigine would be toxic to a cat - you would have seen symptoms by now. Cats rarely will eat any medications on their own. I would definitely find it hard to believe a cat would eat 4 medications. So, I doubt he ingested them. Just be careful to keep them out of his reach as some of them could be deadly.

I agree with your vet to keep an eye on Calcifer and if his symptoms continue or worsen, to bring him in. Keeping him happy, eating, and spending a little time together to cuddle may help your own nerves as well!
