My cat ate an onion. How long until symptoms show and what are they?

I definitely wouldn't give them anymore of the sausage, and I would monitor them for now. Dehydrated onion is more concentrated that fresh onion, so less of it could cause toxic signs. Toxicity symptoms include lethargy, weakness, ataxia, pale gums, red or discolored urine, vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive drooling. Should you see any of those signs, I would take them both into the vet right away. It can take up to a couple of days for signs to show, so I would monitor them for 72 hours.

He may experience some digestive upset but a one-time consumption shouldn't cause any problems with anemia. If he gets sick, refuses to eat, becomes lethargic, starts vomiting or has diarrhea, get him in to see your vet as soon as possible.

It is unlikely that there was enough onion present to cause a problem, but eating that much pizza will likely cause some gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines) which could lead to vomiting and diarrhea. He could also develop pancreatitis. If he starts vomiting, having diarrhea, isn't wanting to eat, or seems lethargic, please take him to your vet for treatment. In the meantime, withhold for at least 12 hours, then offer small amounts of. a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice for the next couple of days. Onions will cause oxidative damage to the red blood cells which can result in anemia. If the onions are going to be an issue, it will be a few days before you would see this, and generally would present as decreased appetite and lethargy. If those symptoms are noted, get him in to your vet for bloodwork. It is unlikely that Pepper will get poisoned by a few licks of broth with a few crushed onion pieces in it. There is no need to take her to an emergency vet. She would have to ingest a lot of onion in order to get anemia from it. Should she get lethargic or get white gums, have your vet give her an exam, but as I said, it is very unlikely that Pepper will get ill.

That should not be an issue. It would be more common to see an upset stomach with diarrhea and vomiting after giving that type of meat to a cat. You should watch Lilly for the next 2 to 3 days for any bombing, diarrhea, weakness or belly pain. If she has any of those signs she should be checked out by a veterinarian.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear that Luna got into the pan with onions. Generally, she would need to eat a few mouthfuls of pure onion to get a toxic amount. A few licks of oil in a pan with onion in it wouldn't cause problems, except maybe some GI distress from excess fat. If she did ingest a toxic amount of onions, it would cause anemia which results in weakness and lethargy.
