Cat has a hanging tooth but eats and drinks. Is it an emergency?

I would definitely recommend leaving it alone because you could cause some pain and injury by wiggling on it. However I would consider having your vet take a look at it because safe extraction if the canine tooth may be recommended to avoid having a huge hole left behind for foodstuffs to then get clogged into. If your vet extracts the tooth instead of just letting it fall out, the vet can then close the hole with suture. This is the best approach when dealing with diseases canine teeth especially, because this is the only tooth that can leave a hole that directly communicates with the nasal passages (oronasal fistula), so we take extra precautions with this tooth in particular. Schedule an appt with your local vet soon and I hope everything turns out well for your cat Zoe.

If she has a tooth hanging out, it's not necessarily an emergency, but I would recommend taking her to vet in the morning. If it's a baby tooth, it is usually not a problem since they will fall out eventually. If it's an adult tooth that is hanging, she will likely need to be put under anesthesia to have it extracted as these broken adult teeth are very painful and prone to infection.

As long as she is eating and drinking without discomfort, I think waiting is fine. Your veterinarian will evaluate all of her remaining teeth and advise you on any extractions that will be needed at the time of the dental. It may be ok to remove if it is fairy lose and comes out without too much manipulation. Use your fingers only when trying to pry it free. Also use care not to get bitten as this may cause some discomfort from your pet kitty. If you can't get it free,then visit your local vet for assistance. If this is a kitten tooth, then it can be removed fairly easily; however if this is an adult tooth then periodontal disease may be lurking underneath the gum requiring a full dental cleaning and extraction(s). If she is acting normal (eating, drinking, playing, eliminating normally) I think you are ok to wait until your vet is open. If she won't eat and drink you should find a vet that is open and have her evaluated. Most times these situations are not emergencies unless the owner has a show dog or cat. As Dr Fernandez recommended, taking him in to the vet would be highly recommended. Regarding being worried about him swallowing the tooth should it fall out on its own--the answer there is that you do not need to worry about it. If he were to swallow a tooth, it would be digested enough by the acid in the stomach to pass without a problem.

I see you have a snaggletooth kitty! If you mean the little incisor on the right, do nothing, it will fall out by itself. She has already lost a canine tooth, which, in itself is not a problem, however I would have the veterinarian look at her teeth soon. She may have excessive tartar, gingivitis and /or FORL (lesions on the tooth roots) which make the teeth fall out and are painful. Tank may need a teeth cleaning under anesthesia to make sure her mouth is healthy again and not lose more teeth. Gingivitis and tartar can also lead to detrimental bacteria entering the blood stream and causing heart and kidney disease. So dental cleaning is important when there are indications of dental disease.
