What to do for my grieving cat meowing and disappearing after loss?

Our pets experience grief and loss, and just like people, it takes them a variable amount of time to deal with that loss. If Brostom was very close with the other cat, he might benefit from having another cat in the home to keep him company. If you decide to pursue this, I recommend a slow introduction and keeping the new cat in a separate room for a few days where they can smell each other under the door. If this increases Brostom's agitation, then it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying. I hope this helps.

It's possible Ginger is responding due to the changes in the household. To help her cope, keep her on a routine, set aside 30 minutes a day for playtime and give her lots of attention. Monitor her closely for any signs of illness and have her examined if needed. Most cats will get back to normal within a few weeks. I'm very sorry for your loss. Mineau could absolutely be grieving for your spouse. If possible, try to find one of your husband's old shirts, hats, or something that may have his scent and place this item near his bed. I see that she is an older girl, and so the first thing to do is take her into a vet for a health check. Even though she appears healthy, a sudden change in behavior can be the first sign of an illness. So have her seen by a vet in the next few days. I would also get a Sentry calming collar and a Feliway diffuser. Both release calming pheromones, and that may help with her behavior. I suggest you try some Feliway diffusers to see if it will help him. Give it a couple months to see if it helps.
