Can I use on-spot flea treatment for 4kg+ cats on my 3.8kg cat?

It is likely to be safe but poorly effective as it would not have enough active ingredients for the size of cat. This would mean you would be undertreating and encouraging drug resistance in fleas (but not reducing the risk of any side effects should they occur). I strongly recommend using the correct size and strength for each cat

You can use Advantage spot on but you will need the two different sizes (for small cats and for large cats), you won't find any reliable and safe treatment that would treat a 2 pound cat as well as a 20 pound cat, there is no such thing.

This is because the active ingredient amount is weight dependent. A bigger pet needs more of the active ingredient to kill the fleas than a smaller pet. It's fine to use these on your pets this month and next month. If they are close to a year old, they will not grow much bigger. I hope this helps!

Hi there! I hate to disagree with your veterinarian - but personally, I never recommend underdosing pets with flea/heartworm medication, as this can cause the meds to not be effective. In fact, it's recommended to round up to the next higher weight range if there is any doubt about which one the pet fits into, or if their weight is borderline. This is because these meds have a very high margin of safety, so the risks of underdosing are much greater. For this reason, personally, I would use the higher weight range for your 10+ lb kitty unless your vet has a specific reason not to recommend this in her case. Advantage Multi, like Revolution, is absorbed internally - this is how it's able to treat intestinal parasites and prevent heartworm disease. There is no problem with using either of these monthly long-term, as they're both extremely safe medications in cats :)

As long as it is a cat approved product and not a dog product an the wright ranges are correct then it is fine to use. A small amount of cats have an allergic reaction to any topical product where there can be hair loss at the application site but if this has never happened before then it is unlikely to happen now

Hi there, It kind of depends on the product, but I wouldn't use it on her if it's going to be a slight overdose. Sometimes products have a wider safety margin, but flea products can be toxic at higher doses. Ideally go buy a product that is her size, and that kills adult fleas and their eggs. You can also give her a bath to drown some of them. Sorry you have to deal with that, but congrats on your puppy. Also let the shelter know they have fleas... Etofenprox is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, and cats are quiet sensitive to pyrethroids. I do not recommend using pyrethroid medications to my clients due to the risk for toxicity. The dog product may have a higher concentration and be more likely to cause toxicity. Affected cats will have involuntary muscle tremors or seizure activity. You could bathe both cats with Dawn dish soap to remove any remaining topical medication and contact a veterinarian immediately if you see any signs.
