My cat fought: bleeding nose scratch & loose tooth. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 9 months old | 8.18 lbs

My cat JUST got into a fight and I noticed she had a scratch on her nose, and it bleed. On top of that, her lower canine seems loose, it practically out of her mouth, and there's blood around it. What should I do? Is it serious?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would make sure you clean the scratch using a solution of saline and Betadine (mix together until you have a light brown solution) and clean the cut using this solution. As for the tooth, it may or may not fall out on its own. The entire tooth may come out, in which case, nothing will likely need to be done, or part of the tooth may come out and the remainder of the root will be stuck in the tooth socket. If the root is left behind the fragment should be removed. If the tooth does not fall out on its own in the next 2-3 days, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
