My cat was scratched in a fight. What to do if no vet is open?

He's likely had a traumatic several weeks! Put him in a dark quiet room with his food, water, and litterbox, and minimize his stress. You may also want to consider talking to your vet about getting your more aggressive cat on anxiety medication. This may help make things easier between the cats so you don't have to worry about them fighting all the time. As far as taking care of Winston, keep a close eye on him for now. Make sure he is continuing to eat and drink. And also, it goes without saying, keep him separated from the other cat. Look for any lumps or swelling that could indicate an abscess forming. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats are miraculous healers. The leg could just be sore. I would worry about an abscess forming from the bite. Abscesses required opening them up and antibiotics. The only thing you can do is clean the wounds twice daily with warm water and a mild soap and warm compress the wounds after each cleaning for the next 3-5 days. I wish you the best!

Oh no, poor Naqusha! Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at PetCoach to prescribe any drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your cat. I would call around to find the closest vet in your country to take him into as he really does need veterinary treatment for it. You can gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and I would put a bandage over it to keep it clean and dry. Do not allow Naqsha to go outside if he's allowed outside, and I would put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at it. I can give you a link on how to make one at home. I am very concerned that this could get infected, and he likely needs antibiotics to treat it but you need to see a vet to get them. She probably has a wound from the cat fight. I recommend checking her carefully and clean any scab you find with hydrogen peroxide. It’s best to keep the wound open so the infection can drain. If she stops eating or is too painful then please take her in for a veterinary exam and treatment. It is uncommon for cats to get general wounds just by rubbing up against something or scratching themselves - usually a wound is due to direct trauma like a bite from another cat. If he goes outdoors this could very well be the case. This wound may turn into an infection (abscess). At this stage I would just monitor the wound. Do not put anything on it. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. An abscess may be present and this may need to be lanced and flushed. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any).
