My cat's eye is white from flea killer. Is she blind? What to do?

Poor girl. Yes I do see the swelling there of the left eye. She may or may not have scratched her eye b/c of the fleas, but it definitely isn't helping the situation. You will unfortunately have to visit your vet to get the prescribed medication she needs to have her eye treated for, because there are no over the counter eye meds for pets. I would recommend topical Revolution to prevent fleas in cats, this product is also given through your vet and is highly effective. I would also recommend treating your home for fleas with a flea fogger from your local Lowe's or Home depot. Hello. This kitten has severe infection in both eyes. This requires IMMEDIATE veterinary attention if there is any chance of salvaging her eyes. She may have poor or no vision no matter what is done, but without medical intervention, it is likely that she will have to lose both eyes. She should be examined immediately and once evaluated, treatment can be started which will probably be a combination of oral and topical antibiotics. She may need to see a veterinary eye specialist if she does not start to improve, or she may need to have the eyes surgically removed. Hopefully, with immediate attention, she can improve. Please take her to your veterinarian or closest emergency clinic right away.

Depending on what type of flea medication was used you might be able to contact the company to see what they would recommend. That being said it might also be a good idea to go ahead and have Butter examined by a vet since even if the flea medication shouldn’t cause problems in the eye it looks like Butter’s third eyelid is elevated on one side which could be a sign of irritation or a nerve problem.

Poor Tikiii, It could have been from the shampoo causing eye irritation. You can use warm water to wash her eyes (or you can purchase eye wash solution for humans from the drug store) to rinse her eyes. They should return to normal in 24hrs, but if she is still holding them shut or they look irritated still, you should take her to the vet and they might test her for injury to her corneas (outer surface of the eye) called a corneal ulcer. A simple eye drop that is soothing and safe is called "BLINK CONTACTS" - this is also available a the drug store.

It is hard to say if it will improve with eye drops. the pupil appears dilated also may be a sign of vision loss if there was previous trauma to the eye. She seems very calm with it open and that is a good sign it does not hurt. The best thing to do is see a vet to see if that is a part of the vitreous that healed due to a previous puncture or old penetrating wound, or see if there is something stuck to the eye that needs removal

It's always tough trying to deal with feral cats. The best option would be to take her to the vet (maybe they could spay her at the same time? Not all vets would be able to do that, but might be worth asking). The vet could sedate her, check out her eye, and vaccinate her for rabies at least. There is a risk of her biting, but we usually can take appropriate precautions to avoid this. If you do take her in, ask your vet ahead of time what preferences they have for type of carrier etc so that they have the best chance of successfully looking at her. It will probably end up costing you a decent amount of money to take her in, because of the extra time +/- sedation that will be required (plus costs for testing, vaccines, medications), so just be aware of that ahead of time. That said, to answer your question about care at home - she could have a viral eye infection (very very common in cats), or it could have gotten worse and become a bacterial infection or an ulcer. She could have issues with the pressure in her eye or have a congenital problem. All we really know is that her eye hurts for some reason. All you can really do at home is keep the eye clean with a warm wash cloth and maybe put some lubricating drops in (GenTeal severe is best for this, it's an OTC human eye drop). You can also give her L-lysine treats which will help fight off a viral infection. That won't be enough if she has a bacterial infection, an ulcer, or really any issue other than a mild viral infection. Eye issues can get bad fast she risks losing sight or the eye itself, so definitely consider going the vet route if at all possible. I hope she's feeling better soon! Good luck!
