Is my kitten drooling from flea spray? When should I call the vet?

Drooling is a sign of ingestion of flea medication, and if Peanut Butter has symptoms that progress to lethargy, facial twitching, agitation, seizures, or vomiting, he will need to see a vet immediately. Stress/distress can sometimes cause a cat to drool. If she just came home today, I would give her some time to settle down and relax. If she continues to drool, or shows any other signs of illness such as loss of appetite, vomiting, disorientation, etc, bringing her to a vet ASAP is best.

Given that Josie is now eating, drinking water, and acting affectionately, I would not bring her into the vet today. It sounds like she is doing fine after washing her with Dawn. I would bring her into the vet if the symptoms return, or she stops eating, drinking, and behaving normally.

Poor kitten! Excessive drooling like that can definitely be caused by nausea, as well as irritation of the mouth, throat, nose, or stomach. Getting into something potentially toxic or bad tasting, flea and tick treatments for dogs accidentally used on cats, or underlying illness can also cause foaming like this. I would definitely take him to another vet ASAP since it is so severe.

I would be concerned about Zapatitos being nauseas, having infection or trauma inside the mouth or even a toxin if possible exposure. I would recommend taking her to a vet to have a good detailed exam to help narrow down why Zapatitos is hyper salivating. It is important to look under her tongue and make sure string is not attached causing a foreign body. Also you can look in her mouth to make sure you do not see any type of sores. Sometimes cats will chew electrical wires and get burns in the mouth or even have viruses that cause ulcers. All of these things can cause hyper salivation. I think a vet visit is best to help Zapatitos feel better as soon as possible.

If she didn't like the oral medicine, it could have caused her to drool heavily and twitch her head some, but of course without seeing her myself, it is difficult to say for sure. Since she is currently being treated for her eye, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at her to see if there is any concern and if there is anything they can do for her. So cats are very sensitive to flea treatments, and her symptoms seem to match up with flea treatment toxicity (except for urinating outside the litter box). It may be that the Frontline is causing her problems. I would wash off the Frontline now, give her a bath to get it off if you applied it within the last 24 hours. If it's been more than 24 hours, have her seen by a vet now. Depending on when you applied the Fronline, either wait a week (if the Frontline was applied in the last 24 hours) or two weeks since the application (if apply longer than 24 hours ago), then use a different flea treatment program like Revolution or Advantage. I would not use Frontline again. As for urinating outside the box, this could be due to feline idiopathic cystitis. Stress can bring this on, and a reaction to flea treatment can be stressful. Have her seen by a vet for this. I hope this helps!
