My cat is drooling with watery eyes. Could he have eaten flea meds?

Flea spray can cause a reaction such as you're describing, especially if she ingests some of it, which cats will often do while grooming. Hopefully it's just a reaction to the taste of the spray, and will pass quickly. If it continues for more than a couple of hours, or if she becomes lethargy or unsteady, take her in to the vet immediately, as she could have a more serious reaction to the medication. Also, if the spray contains pyrethrin, have her seen immediately, as this is highly toxic to cats.

Depending on what type of flea medication was used you might be able to contact the company to see what they would recommend. That being said it might also be a good idea to go ahead and have Butter examined by a vet since even if the flea medication shouldn’t cause problems in the eye it looks like Butter’s third eyelid is elevated on one side which could be a sign of irritation or a nerve problem.

One of the medications that we will use for eye pain in cats is called Atropine Sulfate. This medication is notorius for making cats drool profusely since the tear duct system is connected to the nose and mouth (so cats will taste the eye drops). This can potentially occur with other eye drops, but Atropine tends to cause the worst problems. The drooling your noticed this morning is likely related to her anticipating the taste of the eye drops (like a Pavlovian response where dogs drool when they anticipate their dinner). If her drooling response is making it difficult for her to tolerate her eye drops, I would recommend contacting your veterinarian to see how long she needs to take the eye drops and if there is an alternative available for her. If she didn't like the oral medicine, it could have caused her to drool heavily and twitch her head some, but of course without seeing her myself, it is difficult to say for sure. Since she is currently being treated for her eye, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at her to see if there is any concern and if there is anything they can do for her. Sneezing and drooling can be from many different things. It is not recommended that you give your cat any over the counter medications as most are toxic to cats. If his symptoms persist for longer than 24 hours then he should see a vet. It could be an upper respiratory infection or he may have a dental/tooth infection. He could have ingested or inhaled something toxic. I cannot say for sure.

Gum inflammation (gingivitis), tooth abscesses involving soft tissue and bone infection. This is most likely the cause of what you are seeing. It's also possible that there is an oral mass (tumor) in the mouth. I would advise trying to find a local cat rescue group in the area to help you with this guy. Many communities have a support system for these Community Cats. They will also help to get him neutered and vaccinated if there is such a program in your area. Reach out to the local groups and see if they can help with his care. There may be a low-cost clinic in your area willing to help with him. Good luck

Given that Josie is now eating, drinking water, and acting affectionately, I would not bring her into the vet today. It sounds like she is doing fine after washing her with Dawn. I would bring her into the vet if the symptoms return, or she stops eating, drinking, and behaving normally.
