Cat drooling after gingivitis treatment and antibiotics. Is it normal?

While I think it is probably a reaction to the medication I don't necessarily think that it is a 'bad' reaction. Some cats react to the flavor of antibiotics or become stressed when the medication is administered which leads to drooling. This antibiotic could also cause nausea, but if Dusky isn't vomiting the drooling probably isn't related to nausea. You could try giving the antibiotic right after a meal to hopefully minimize any chance of nausea.

Hello. The shivers could be from his body fighting the infection, & the drooling is either a reaction to his medication or nausea. How is his appetite? Is he eating & does he seem to feel better overall? If not, I would take him back to see the vet, but if he does seem to be improving by eating & drinking fairly well, then you can give the antibiotics a little more time. Poor guy. It is hard to saw if this is more likely a tumor than inection without seeing the mass itself. However, if the antibiotics were effective they would have shown much improvement within 4-5 days after starting them. Drooling could just indicate he is nauseous. Also if the swelling has gone down tremendously since starting the medication, then this is more likely not a tumor. I hope that things work out well for your pet G moving forward. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pou. Drooling is typically the result of nausea, oral pain or ingesting something with a bad taste. He will need to see his veterinarian if his symptoms persist. If he did acquire the respiratory infection from his housemate, then post-nasal drop could be making him nauseous. This does appear to be a normal reaction to oral medication. Cats really do not like the taste of the medication and tend to drool and hold their mouth open. If this was to happen 20 minutes, or more after you gave the medication, then I'd be concerned that it is an adverse reaction to the medication. In that case, it would be best to contact your veterinarian. If the medication appears to be stressing her out so much that she is having labored breathing, then it may be worthwhile to change the way it is delivered. Your veterinarian can advise more about this. It would be good to take a video of what you are seeing after giving the medication. You can show this to your vet and they can help determine how serious this is. I hope that helps and Sofi gets better soon.

This could be something else such as a mass which is why it has not resolved or perhaps an abscess that is not sensitive to the antibiotics that were used. Hi, I would recommend to have him checked over as from a tiny puncture wound he could be developing an abscess.. and they cause quite a lot of pain ! Offer him some soft food in the meantime and keep him indoors so that you can monitor him.
