Is my cat's diarrhea and gas after neutering due to overeating?

It is possible that he could have had a reaction to the anesthesia or just the stress of being neutered. Or it could be completely coincidental and it could be secondary to something else like parasites, foreign body, a sudden change in food, pancreatitis, an underlying infection, and much more. I would try to feed him some plain boiled boneless and skinless chicken and white rice. I would also try to start him on some probiotics. Your vet should be able to provide these or give you some recommendations. You can try some plain sugar free yogurt but the probiotics in this isn't as good as the cat probiotics because we have different bacteria in our gut than in cats. The next step should be to have him re-examined and likely have some bloodwork done. I would also make sure the vet has ruled out an parasites including giardia which is difficult to find on a regular fecal test. If your vet doesn't think there is a foreign body, they will be able to provide him with a good anti-nausea medicine to help with the vomiting. I hope this helps!

Poor Leo. It sounds like he could have some diarrhea. I recommend that you feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. I hope this helps.

Yes the medications (anesthetics and antibiotics if used) can cause digestive upsets fater surgery. Bland, small low fat meals fed little and often and a probioitc such as fortiflora can help. If he is weak and unwell you should have him checled by your vet to rule out a fever or infection of the wound

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. The incision is holding together. Yes, typically the stitches are not pulled tight at the time of surgery to allow for the skin swelling that naturally occurs after the surgery. As for the diarrhea, it could be due to stress or any medications Ella was given after surgery. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. If you have no proof of vaccines it is best to do then to know he is protected. A rabies vaccine would be due along with a panleukopenia and respiratory virus combination (fvrcp). This one will need to be boostered 4 weeks after the first then you can go to every 3 years. You can change his diet to a sensitive stomach or even just boiled shredded chicken to help until you get him seen. You want to pick up a dewormer and probiotic at a pet store to also help

I'm sorry to hear Zeko is so sick. These signs are not expected post-op and they are not normal. I would recommend to take him in to see a vet. Depending on how large your shelter is, they may have a doctor on staff to see these pets so call them but otherwise take him to see your regular doctor. Don't wait til after the holidays.
