My cat can't pee, but no blockage. What else could be causing it?

It sounds that Puss suffers from acute kidney failure, which is most commonly caused by intoxication (for example ingesting antifreeze, human anti-inflammatory medications, lily pollen and more). This is a serious condition and the best place to be for Puss is a vet hospital. There are a few methods to induce urine output (drip, diuretic medications) and I do hope he will start producing urine very soon. However, as I am sure your vet advised you, the prognosis are uncertain, if Puss is not able to produce any urine at the moment.

I am assuming he is trying to urinate often but nothing happens. This is an emergency. Your Hobo likely has a urethral obstruction and is not able to urinate. This is a life threatening condition. This may also be the reason why he is vomiting. Hobo needs to be taken to a PetER right away to have his urethra unblocked. I would recommend a further check up and blood test as renal issues can come up many hours/days later than initial presentation. Incontinence can be secondary to lack of bladder contraction due to over-distended bladder (due to blockage), there are anyway medications available to help contraction. A blocked cat will continue to return to the litter box, strain unproductively or only pass small amounts of urine that may be bloody, and often be vocalizing. If you notice any of these signs, he needs to be taken to a vet immediately to be assessed for possible blockage. Feeding wet food, fountains, and dripping sinks and good ways to encourage cats to drink more water. Urinary tract infections in cats are fairly uncommon. Usually the urinary disease is a result of a production of crystals or stones or a sterile inflammatory bladder disease. Oh no, that's not good. This can be a sign of a blockage in the urethra from bladder stones. A urethral blockage is fatal without treatment, and since I can't see Mittens in person to rule one out, I think it's best to take him into a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Tickle! If she is unable to pee, this is a medical emergency. It could be she is suffering from a urinary tract obstruction. Typically this occurs most often in male cats, but it can happen in female cats and signs include an inability to pee, severe pain (which she showed by panting), and vomiting. She needs veterinary care, as if she does have a urinary blockage, it is fatal without treatment. Please take her into a vet immediately.
