My cat had a blocked urethra. Why is he now incontinent and vomiting?

Temporary Incontinence is very common following relief of obstruction and tends to resolve over 10-14days. The reasons why are poorly understood but seem to be related to muscle weakness and poor nerve control as well as an increase in urine production following kidney insult and tends to improve gradually.

Renal failure could be the cause of excessive urination, on top of that urinary infection could resemble incontinence. I would consider the check up and urine analysis essential to start investigating the underlying cause. Antibiotics may be needed. Please make sure he is passing urine. As you know male cats can get a urinary blockage that can quickly become life threatening. If he’s not urinating that is a medical emergency so take him in right away to have him checked. Vomiting and lethargy can be a sign also. They can get kidney damage from this too. Thanks for posting this question. I am really worried about Kent too. Urinary obstruction can be very serious and even fatal. If he was obstructed fir a long enough time it may have damaged his kidneys which may be why he isn't eating. It also looks by the picture that maybe he is leaking urine? That is very concerning too. I worry his urethra may be damaged. I would encourage you to reach out to your veterinarian and take him back in for a recheck and possible blood work. His condition is very serious and could potentially be fatal. I'm so sorry Kent is so sick. I wish him the best.

Persistent vomiting and anorexia are signs of significant illness in cats, either from fever, infection or inflammation. Urinary obstruction leads to dangerous toxin build up and potential kidney injury and hospital treatment is necessary immediately and may include intravenous fluids and medications. Occasionally kidney damage can be irreversible

I would be worried that your cat is actually starting to experience the signs of a urinary blockage, and needs to have a urinary catheter placed in order to allow him to urinate normally until the inflammation and swelling associated with the urethra goes down. Please return to the vet where you took him; urinary blockage is life-threatening and medications alone frequently do not correct the problem.

Poor Kitty Kins. It sounds like he has either lower urinary tract disease, stones or has a partial urinary blockage. None of these conditions improve on their own, but instead require some level of treatment or management. So the treatment they gave him so far is basically they drained his bladder and treated him for an underlying urinary tract infection. However if he is developing a blockage he will need to be catheterized and treated with medications to help keep his urinary sphincter relaxed. You are doing the right thing by feeding him canned food, as this will increase his water intake and help promote a healthy bladder. However if he does become completely blocked (blocked Tom), he will need emergency procedures to free up the blockage and empty his bladder, as they mentioned already.
