My cat has an old injury and can't jump. Is breeding safe for her?

Runts of the litter should not be bred as they are much more likely to have complications including dystocia, milk fever, etc. I would recommend not breeding her, and would actually recommend getting her spayed right away to prevent an un-planned pregnancy that would put Katya in danger. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about your cat. These are all impossible questions to answer maybe even for your vet who has examined her. Time will tell if she conceived. Liver problems can certainly complicate anesthesia but a liver protocol could certainly be followed if you elected to spay her. I would consult with the vet who knows the most about this case. Good luck

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry that you and Bijoux are going through this! She really needs to see a Vet. There are low cost Veterinary clinics in some SPCAs. Cats are sometimes miraculous healers but it has been so long. She may just need it splinted. But if splinted she would absolutely need to be crated in a large dog crate for 6-8 weeks and not allowed outside. If it can't heal with a splint it may need to be amputated. Cats can live a long happy pain free life with 3 legs. Allowing her to be outside and walking and jumping on a broken leg for sure isn't going to help it heal. I hope you can find some help for her. Since she is pregnant sedation may have to wait until at least the kittens are born. Good luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If she hasn't been spayed yet she should be able to still have kittens. Her breed is only a problem if she or the male cat has large skulls that they may not pass in the birth canal. It is not too early to spay her, in fact I usually recommend spaying at 6months. The more heat cycles so goes through the more at risk she is for mammary and uterine cancers as she ages. My recommendation is to spay her soon. Good luck and kisses to Sussie!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Personally I think she is getting very close to being too old. I would have an exam and bloodwork done by your Vet. If everything comes back fine then you can try. I wouldn’t breed her 10 or older and would spay her as soon as you are done. I hope this helps!

If Jet is otherwise healthy I don't necessarily think it is dangerous for her to be pregnant. At that age we do start to see many age related diseases, and while you can screen for many diseases like hyperthyroidism and she may seem healthy on a physical exam there is always a possibility that she may have an underlying disease that puts her at risk. If you are not planning to breed her I would recommend having her spayed - cats do not stop cycling as they age unless they develop a reproductive disease.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Three-legged cats do well. I see no reason why it would affect her giving birth and nursing. Ideally pain medications should be continued for a week or more based on how the cat is doing. There is some what of a risk to the unborn babies giving pain medications so care is warranted. Ultimately she will be fine! You guys saved her and her babies! Have a great day!
