Is an 8-year-old female cat too old to get pregnant and have kittens?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Peynir. While she is physically able to become pregnant at such a young age, it is not advisable. As a kitten, she herself is still growing. Pregnancy would put a huge demand at her body now. I recommend waiting until she is well over a year of age, if not two years old, to breed her. I hope this information helps!

If she was mature enough to come in to heat she should be fine. When the kittens are weaned at 6-8 weeks I would have her spayed though to prevent further pregnancies and to control the cat population. Good luck!

Beautiful cat! Unfortunately there is no way for me to give you any sort of idea on age or health just by looking at the photos. You would need a vet to do an exam in person. All I can say is that she definitely appears to be an adult (over 1 year of age). As for breeding, it is recommended that females not have a litter until at least 18 months of age although they technically can become pregnant and have a litter as young as 7-8 months old. They can continue to be become pregnant and have litters well into their early teens. Not recommended to do so but it is possible. Whether or not you should 'go for it" is entirely up to you. If Jet is otherwise healthy I don't necessarily think it is dangerous for her to be pregnant. At that age we do start to see many age related diseases, and while you can screen for many diseases like hyperthyroidism and she may seem healthy on a physical exam there is always a possibility that she may have an underlying disease that puts her at risk. If you are not planning to breed her I would recommend having her spayed - cats do not stop cycling as they age unless they develop a reproductive disease.

Although cats can get pregnant at seven months old or so I prefer to wait to breed them until they are mature at one year old. That way they are bigger and usually better mothers than if they give birth when they are still kittens themselves. If you want to have a certain breed of kittens then you can find purebred breeders who have male breeding cats. Unfortunately there are already too many kittens that don't find homes so if you want to raise kittens check with your local shelter or rescue group as they often have pregnant cats that need fostering. Hi, I think 8 years old it's far too old for a dog to breed. If she should get pregnant she is at risk of complications during pregnancy and likelihood of having puppies with malformations. A bit like having a babies when you are in your seventies.

Cat should not be bred until they've reached full maturity - sometime between 18 months and 2 years of age. I would recommend that the two cats are of similar sizes as using a much larger male can result in kittens that are too large causing problems at birth. You should also have both cats examined by a veterinarian prior to breeding to ensure that they are both healthy and have a no apparent hereditary conditions that could be passed on to the kittens. Please also keep in mind that pregnancy and delivery can result in some complications sometimes even needing surgery and you should be prepared for these expenses.
