Will a 3-legged pregnant cat have trouble giving birth or nursing?

Oh, yay for you!!! “Tripods” are awesome. As far as post op complications, if he’s 3 weeks out and the vet at the shelter feels he’s healed well, you don’t have any complications to worry about, per se. Be aware that he can’t defend himself as well, so it is CRUCIAL that he be indoor only. He also won’t be quite as much of a “jumper” as most cats and you may find that he can jump up easily and then hesitate to jump down. If he jumps down from a height and has only 1 leg to land on, he does have an increased risk of injuring that leg; however in a young healthy cat that’s still quite unlikely to be an issue. Do not allow him to get overweight; if he becomes overweight he’s more likely to have mobility and pain problems. Other than that, he’s a totally normal cat!! You will love him so much!! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry that you and Bijoux are going through this! She really needs to see a Vet. There are low cost Veterinary clinics in some SPCAs. Cats are sometimes miraculous healers but it has been so long. She may just need it splinted. But if splinted she would absolutely need to be crated in a large dog crate for 6-8 weeks and not allowed outside. If it can't heal with a splint it may need to be amputated. Cats can live a long happy pain free life with 3 legs. Allowing her to be outside and walking and jumping on a broken leg for sure isn't going to help it heal. I hope you can find some help for her. Since she is pregnant sedation may have to wait until at least the kittens are born. Good luck!

You should have her seen by your veterinarian and hopefully he can give her medication against the pain. Pain is stress and can cause her to have her kittens early. I think it is also important to check whether she was hit by a car or whether the kittens were hurt in the process of the injury to her leg. Please take her to a veterinarian ASAP.

What a surprise! Fortunately, the recent surgery should not cause any problems at all with the kittens - there is no reason that she shouldn't be able to have them normally. If her paw seems painful, I would definitely recommend giving your vet a call in the morning to let them know that she's uncomfortable - he/she should be able to prescribe some additional pain medication for the next few days.

If her bone density isn't normal then she will have a hard time healing and it will take her longer, could be more painful and put her through more. Amputating the leg will be uncomfortable for her for 5-7 days then she will do great. Cats do well on 3 legs! I wish you the best!

Hello, Depending on the extent of Chinnu's injuries, it may not be possible for her to deliver kittens on her own or walk again. It can take time to fully realize the extent of spinal cord damage. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Be sure that Liona is actually producing milk before putting the kittens with her. If she isn't making milk then you need to bottle feed the kittens every 2-3 hours with kitten milk replacer. Once she gives birth you can try to put the kittens on her. Just be sure they aren't pushing her kittens off. Track the weights of her kittens to be sure they are getting enough. I wish you the best!
