My cat ate a toxic medication, but I removed most of it. Is he safe?

If he ingested it last Wednesday is not showing any symptoms I would not be worried. Lisinopril can be given to cats. Of course I don't know what dose he ate but you would have seen side effects by now if it was going to be a problem. Pioglitazone is not used widely in cats but there is a study that shows it can be given to cats and was effective to increase insulin sensitivity. They didn't show any side effects at the dose given. Whether he ate your dose and it was a toxic level, I don't know. Phentermine and Lamotrigine would be toxic to a cat - you would have seen symptoms by now. Cats rarely will eat any medications on their own. I would definitely find it hard to believe a cat would eat 4 medications. So, I doubt he ingested them. Just be careful to keep them out of his reach as some of them could be deadly.

That should not cause any damage or severe toxic effect. I would just monitor him at this stage but I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. In order to give you the best advice we would need to know the name of the medication. Can you please post again with that information? Cats are VERY sensitive to over the counter medications so it could very well be something toxic that he ingested and he may not show any symptoms of toxicity right away. If you could also give us his approximate weight that would be helpful as well.

Hello. I am sorry that your question was not addressed earlier, so I hope you have already taken your cats to the vet for decontamination & supportive care. There is really not very much information about this particular medication being consumed by a cat. It is basically progesterone, & we do know that higher doses can cause sedation, ataxia, anisocoria ( unequal pupils ) & disorientation. I found one documented source of a cat that consumed an unknown amount of progesterone, & all of the symptoms resolved over several hours with supportive care ( not identified, but probably included fluids & possible gastric decontamination with activated charcoal ). So if any of your cats are showing any of these signs, please have the cat examined by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If it has been several hours & everyone is looking & acting well, then you may still find the pill somewhere. But any concerns or doubts, please head out to your veterinarian. Nikolai should be okay as far as toxicity goes. 300mg is a lot but not at the point at which you would see liver toxicity or other adverse health problems. However, that being said, if he is still lethargic and acting abnormal, I would recommend taking him in to be seen by a veterinarian and have his blood tested to establish a baseline as well. When antibiotics are ingested in toxic amounts, it can result in mild to severe signs ranging from gastrointestinal signs (e.g., drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, discolored teeth), metabolic signs (e.g., skin lesions, liver failure, kidney failure, etc.) to central nervous system signs (e.g., tremors, seizures, death). I would advise contacting your local emergency vet hospital or contact Poison Control https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Sorry this happened with your pet. Other than vomiting and/or diarrhea I wouldn't expect any real problems in most cases. Since he ingested it about an hour or so ago, chances are the medication is already absorbed so there is no use in inducing vomiting. I would say just monitor him for now and if you notice any abnormal behavior or illness then you should then get him to a vet ASAP. I don't think this is a huge issue but you never know how an individual will react to any medication.
