My cat ate another cat's methimazole and prednisolone. Is he okay?

Overdosage of any thyroid drug may produce the signs and symptoms of thyrotoxicosis including, but not limited to: polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, reduced heat tolerance and hyperactivity or personality change. if she is experiencing any of those- take her to your vet, if not she should be fine.

If he ingested it last Wednesday is not showing any symptoms I would not be worried. Lisinopril can be given to cats. Of course I don't know what dose he ate but you would have seen side effects by now if it was going to be a problem. Pioglitazone is not used widely in cats but there is a study that shows it can be given to cats and was effective to increase insulin sensitivity. They didn't show any side effects at the dose given. Whether he ate your dose and it was a toxic level, I don't know. Phentermine and Lamotrigine would be toxic to a cat - you would have seen symptoms by now. Cats rarely will eat any medications on their own. I would definitely find it hard to believe a cat would eat 4 medications. So, I doubt he ingested them. Just be careful to keep them out of his reach as some of them could be deadly.

These signs could be consistent with methimazole related side effects. GI upset and facial itching are some of the most common acute side effects in the first few months of therapy. I would recommend stopping the medication until you can talk to your vet about your concerns. Some cats can not take this medication and thus require an alternate method of treatment. Most Levothyroxine tablets come in 0.1-0.9mg dosages, so I am not sure why your pet is on a full 5mg dosage. If this is not a typo, then this is a pretty hefty dosage for a cat to receive if she surely got 2.5mg's. However, severe life threatening symptoms from a single overdose are less likely than with chronic overdosing. Some signs you may see are: Vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity to lethargy, hypertension, tachycardia, tachypnea, dyspnea, and abnormal pupillary light reflexes. It can take 1-9 hrs for absorption to occur. Then the drug should be mostly out of her system 12-24 hrs. In most cases this is not an emergency situation, but you can see the symptoms I mentioned above, which should be treated with supportive care through your vet. This is a tough one indeed, but it is likely that Kilala will be ok, since I assume that the dosage you gave has to be incorrect based on the typical dosage that dogs receive (between 0.1-0.9mg). Yes I would stop the methimazole until you can have him checked again by your veterinarian. If he feels better off the methimazole then the methimazole dose may have been too high. They will check his blood work again for the thyroid level and for the pancreatitis. When changing diets I try adding just a small amount of new food at each meal until he gets used to it. Cats are fussy eaters but if he's still not eating it may be that Jojo just doesn't feel well and it wasn't that he didn't like the food. There is not a concern for ingesting prednisolone in and of itself. I am not sure if the formulation you are using is intended only for topical use, so may have some ingredients that shouldn’t be ingested, however if it was just a small amount, I wouldn’t be concerned.
