My cat ate Rennie indigestion tablets. Should I take him to the vet?

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 7 months old | 10 lbs

Hi my cat ate 2 of my Rennie indigestion tablets. It says on the box that its 680mg/80 mg Calcium carbonate and Magnesium carbonate sparemint tablets. It also contains sucrose 250 mg, glucose 250mg, flavouring, providone, saccharin sodium and magnesium stearate. ( that's i think for each tablet, he ate 2.) He is about 8 lbs. He ate it about an hr ago now and he seems fine. Just wandering if i should worry or get him to the vet? Thank u

Other than vomiting and/or diarrhea I wouldn't expect any real problems in most cases. Since he ingested it about an hour or so ago, chances are the medication is already absorbed so there is no use in inducing vomiting. I would say just monitor him for now and if you notice any abnormal behavior or illness then you should then get him to a vet ASAP. I don't think this is a huge issue but you never know how an individual will react to any medication.

Hello, the calcium content in that chew should be well tolerated by Thunder. The magnesium content may cause GI signs such as constipation, loose stools, or even diarrhea. She needs to be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER immediately. Either can induce vomiting via injection to get the pills up and out. Activated charcoal may be given afterwards to further decrease absorption. This is most successful if done within 2 hours of ingestion. Given current events, you may need to drop her off then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings, treatment options and follow up plans.

The intoxication depends on the dosage ingested. By the sound of it, if they ingested them they would have shown signs by now especially regarding the Venlafaxine. No home remedies are available unfortunately.

I certainly would monitor him closely for the next twelve hours and if you are seeing any behavioral changes, vomiting or diarrhea then please take him right in for treatment. Hello. Neither one of these medications is toxic to cats in a one time dose. If Louis vomits at some point, it should be a one-time occurrence, but the omeprazole works as a stomach protectant in cats, just like in people, so he will be just fine. My cat ate my indigestion tablets. Is OTC medicine toxic for cats?

In order to give you the best advice we would need to know the name of the medication. Can you please post again with that information? Cats are VERY sensitive to over the counter medications so it could very well be something toxic that he ingested and he may not show any symptoms of toxicity right away. If you could also give us his approximate weight that would be helpful as well.

It could potentially cause serious toxicity. Blackie should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. If the ingestion was less than 2 hours ago, vomiting can be induced via injection. Activated charcoal may be given after to further decrease absorption. Kidney function should be monitored to confirm no damage has been done.
