My cat ate potato peels. Are they toxic? What signs to watch for?

There are no toxicity concerns with sweet potatoes in cats, With any new food, some animals that may have a sensitive digestive tract may have GI upset including diarrhea and vomiting. With this small of an ingestion I think it unlikely but would monitor for these signs and if they persist seek veterinary care.

A small chip will likely not result in anything more than some minor gastrointestinal upset, if any. GI upset, with no other symptoms can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet until symptoms resolve. Always keep human foods out of reach and limit table scraps to occasional small tidbits, if at all.

No worries. Potatoes and the skin are not toxic to pets, even raw. Maddie should be just fine. At the worse she may have a little upset stomach, in which case you can give her some bland chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days and she should be back to normal in no time. Hello, you should only attempt to induce vomiting with peroxide twice. If the potato was not moldy then Jody should be fine. He may have some diarrhea which may require anti-diarrhea medications, but otherwise, there are no toxins you need to worry about. If he did not chew the potato then this may be more of a problem as it could be too big and may cause an obstruction. If you think that he did not chew the potato or if you think the potato may have been moldy, then you can bring him to your veterinarian to have them induce vomiting and take radiographs tonight. Otherwise, you can monitor him at home for any vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and have him evaluated by your veterinarian if he does develop any of these tomorrow. Raw potatoes can be toxic in certain amounts, especially the eyes, green parts under the eyes, the vines and leaves. Mostly it can cause Gi upset with symptoms like vomiting and poor appetite. Cooked potatoes are better as much of the toxin is destroyed in the cooking process. If the potato is green, though, it may still contain a lot of the toxin, even after cooking. If Zeus likes mashed potatoes, I would just make sure to cook them first and that they aren't green.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Fried plantain potentially can cause upset stomach and vomiting in cats. Please, offer Oreo some bland food (a piece of cooked lean meat would be the best) and see if he keeps it down. If he does, you can offer him more of this food in 2-3 hrs. If he is eating and not vomiting, you can feed him small portions every 4-6 hrs for 24hrs and then go back to his regular food. However, if he continues to vomit and refuses to eat at all, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

This is small enough that it has a good chance of passing with any major concerns. Keep an eye on Cheeky for any signs of trouble which includes: excessive vomiting, little to no appetite, little to no stool +/- lethargy. I would then feed her some canned food to help bind the wrapper and hopefully help it pass along. Monitor the stools daily until it is found. If you happen to see any symptoms develop, then a trip to your vet is warranted. I do hope that Cheeky does well and has no issues with this wrapper ingestion.
