My cat ate dried sweet potato. Is it safe? Will it upset their stomach?

This may cause some mild tummy upset which could lead to some vomiting. However, it should be mild and I am doubtful you will have an issue. If she vomits more than twice in 12 hours or vomits more than 2 days in a row, or if she becomes lethargic or seems painful, take her to your vet. Sweet potatoes are not toxic to dogs, so I would not normally expect this to cause any problems apart from some GI upset if she isn't used to eating human food like this. So your pup will probably be just fine :)

Hello, and thank you for your question. Raw sweet potato should not be toxic to dogs. However, it is likely not easily digestible, and so may cause diarrhea. Another concern I would have is whether Kira ate a large chunk of the potato which may cause an obstruction in her stomach or intestines. For now, I would continue to monitor her. You can try offering her small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice. This may help alleviate any GI upset. If she starts vomiting or becomes disinterested in food, or if her diarrhea does not improve within 1-2 days, I would get her to the vet. They can assess for a possible obstruction through physical exam and x-rays, and at minimum provide supportive medications to help get her feeling better quickly. Raw potatoes can be toxic in certain amounts, especially the eyes, green parts under the eyes, the vines and leaves. Mostly it can cause Gi upset with symptoms like vomiting and poor appetite. Cooked potatoes are better as much of the toxin is destroyed in the cooking process. If the potato is green, though, it may still contain a lot of the toxin, even after cooking. If Zeus likes mashed potatoes, I would just make sure to cook them first and that they aren't green.

A small chip will likely not result in anything more than some minor gastrointestinal upset, if any. GI upset, with no other symptoms can usually be managed at home with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet until symptoms resolve. Always keep human foods out of reach and limit table scraps to occasional small tidbits, if at all.

No worries. Potatoes and the skin are not toxic to pets, even raw. Maddie should be just fine. At the worse she may have a little upset stomach, in which case you can give her some bland chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days and she should be back to normal in no time.
