My cat ate fried plantains and is now vomiting. What should I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 2 days old

my dads cat has been puking everything he eats since the morning. and i guess because he’s weak from lack of food, he’s been sleep a lot, and he appears to not feel so well. i asked my dad if he ate anything weird and he told me he caught the cat on the table eating his fried plantains the day before, so he feels like it might be that. i wanted some advice on what to do and maybe if the plantain is the reason he hasn’t been feeling too well.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Fried plantain potentially can cause upset stomach and vomiting in cats.
Please, offer Oreo some bland food (a piece of cooked lean meat would be the best) and see if he keeps it down. If he does, you can offer him more of this food in 2-3 hrs. If he is eating and not vomiting, you can feed him small portions every 4-6 hrs for 24hrs and then go back to his regular food. However, if he continues to vomit and refuses to eat at all, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.
