What's the best spot to apply Advantage to my cat to avoid licking?

Personally I love Advantage. It’s effective and rarely causes a problem. You can use a small amount on several different spots on the head and neck where your cat can’t reach to lick it. That may prevent a large area of skin irritation. If you do see your cat becomeing irritated then use a cat safe flea shampoo and wash it off, and apply a thin film of cortisone cream on the area. Fleas can cause much more skin problems, in addition to anemia so using Advantage is a good way to control them and prevent those medical problems as well as flea bite allergic dermatitis in your cat. Advantage is very safe so you should be fine. You can take a damp cloth and wipe the area to remove some of it. It doesn’t matter where it’s applied, they recommend the neck so they can’t ,Ike it. I would recommend following the instructions placed on the packaging as application instructions may differ based on products. Most of the time we apply these products on the skin between the shoulder blades/at the base of the neck, however some products recommend applying in several locations on the back.

You can put it on them, and keep each one in a separate room for the next 24 hours until it dries. Then they won’t kick it off each other. Be sure to apply the Advantage to the very back of their heads where they can’t reach it to lick off themselves.

The string of saliva may be due to a little nausea from licking the advantage. You need to part the hair and make sure that the advantage is applied directly to the skin to prevent it from running. Watch for any signs of vomiting or tremors. If you see either of these signs, have Chiky examined by your veterinarian.

Advantage drops should be placed on the skin on the back of the neck, where the cat can't reach to lick them off. It's fine to apply the Advantage immediately after giving the vaccine if needed - no need to wait.

I would recommend that you avoid applying any spot on flea prevention product in any area that Delilah may be able to reach by grooming as ingestion of the product could make her unwell. Applying the product to the back of the neck only would be adequate and will keep her safe. You should note that over the counter flea prevention sold in supermarkets and pet shops is often ineffective and if you are experiencing a persistent or recurring flea problem I would recommend using a product prescribed by your veterinarian. I would also recommend treating your house for fleas using a product such as Indorex for example to ensure that there is nothing persisting in the environment that could be causing reintroduction of fleas to Delilah. It would also be recommended to use a product on a regular basis i.e. monthly for ongoing flea prevention.
