I accidentally gave my bunny too much cisapride. Is it safe?

That medication is usually given at 50-100mg/kg (so a bunny weighing approximately would get 15mg of medication, and this is given twice per day. If the sulphadimidine is 33% solution, this would be 0.3mL of this solution, given twice a day, and is usually give for 5 days. I would give 0.3mL tonight and then check with your vet in the morning. If you are unsure of the concentration of the medication, or unsure of the weight of your bunny, please call a 24 hour vet to confirm the amounts and medication. Best of luck with Candy.

I wouldn't want to contradict your veterinarian, because that only leads to confusion. I can only say to use caution when giving any medications together. Dufalac (Duphalac) will help with constipation. Perinorm increases gastric motility. Giving these two together may cause diarrhea in Hunny which could lead to rapid dehydration. Colicaid is for gas in the stomach and Digene is an antacid. These two can likely be used together. My recommendation would be to find one veterinarian with experience treating rabbits and stick with him or her. In the meantime, choose one of the two and discuss ALL the medications and doses that Hunny is on to come up with a safe treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcome.

From Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook "For chronic Constipation (e.g. megacolon): In combination with a stool softener (author recommends lactulose at a starting dose of 2-3 mL PO three times per day; then adjust as needed) and a bulk agent (e.g. psyllium or pumpkin pie filling) cisapride is given initially at 2.5mg (for cats up to 10 lbs) or 5mg (for cats 11 pounds or heavier) three times daily, 30 minutes before food. Cats weighing greater than 16 pounds may require 7.5mg" So in short, Merlin may require a 5-7.5mg dose three times per day. Before changing the dose, I would talk to the prescribing veterinarian about Merlin. I would discuss whether or not he needs a stool softener and whether he needs to be on canned pumpkin daily. Depending on how regulated he is or how constipated he is, he may need different things. If he hasn't had a bowel movement for awhile, he will likely need an enema. I have also found that cats with megacolon respond REALLY well to the prescription diet Royal Canin GI fiber response. Talk to your vet as they can likely order it for you or write a written prescription for you. I hope this helps!

You should always be concerned if an animal eats more than the recommended dosage of anything. That being said, vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamins and she should just excrete the excess amount into the urine. This should not be a problem in a healthy rabbit, however, I cannot be 100% sure that she won’t have any side effects. Just monitor her closely for any signs of illness and if any of those are noticed then get her to the vet for an exam as soon as possible. in the meantime, do not give her any of those treats for the next 10-14 days. There appears to be a lot of stool in the colon. I don't see any severe pathology though. I would recommend a few things: 1. STOP the Amoxcillin. I hate going against what another veterinarian has presbribed but Amoxicillin is not a good antibiotic for rabbits. It can be dangerous because of the likelihood of it negatively effect the GI Tract. I don't see any indication that an antibiotic is needed in your rabbit based on what you have stated in the history. 2. Continue the Cisapride and Eloxyn (if you still have some). The cisapride will help get the GI tract moving. He needs to stay on this drug until the motility of the GI tract is back to normal. 3. Keep feeding the Critical Care on top of the regular diet. The dosage of 0.7 ml is absolutely fine, it's even slightly low for rabbits, there is no need for all the treatments he was given, vitamin K has nothing to do with it and you never try to make a rabbit vomit, no matter what.

Hello. Glucosamine may help your bunny & Flexidin is a good product. Generally, you cannot overdose an animal with a joint supplement, but since rabbits have different digestive systems than dogs & cats, we do go a bit careful here. Generally, we start with a cat suitable dose, so if the 1/4 tablet is appropriate, go ahead & start. If Moko's stool becomes a little soft & runny, you will need to back off to every other day, or stop the supplement. But many bunnies do tolerate this very well. It is worth a try.
