Is my rabbit's Meloxicam dosage safe for their stomach/hip pain?

Hello. Glucosamine may help your bunny & Flexidin is a good product. Generally, you cannot overdose an animal with a joint supplement, but since rabbits have different digestive systems than dogs & cats, we do go a bit careful here. Generally, we start with a cat suitable dose, so if the 1/4 tablet is appropriate, go ahead & start. If Moko's stool becomes a little soft & runny, you will need to back off to every other day, or stop the supplement. But many bunnies do tolerate this very well. It is worth a try. Unfortunately this is a very large dose for his size. Also, if he has kidney problems he could be even more sensitive than normal cats. I would have your vet or your local emergency take a look at him. They may want to check his bloodwork to ensure his kidney values look okay and also make sure he is able to pass irons. If he is blocked and cannot urinate then This can also cause more issues with his kidneys. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon.

I wouldn't want to contradict your veterinarian, because that only leads to confusion. I can only say to use caution when giving any medications together. Dufalac (Duphalac) will help with constipation. Perinorm increases gastric motility. Giving these two together may cause diarrhea in Hunny which could lead to rapid dehydration. Colicaid is for gas in the stomach and Digene is an antacid. These two can likely be used together. My recommendation would be to find one veterinarian with experience treating rabbits and stick with him or her. In the meantime, choose one of the two and discuss ALL the medications and doses that Hunny is on to come up with a safe treatment plan to ensure the best possible outcome.

Collect some dry grass outside. Unfortunately rabbits can get digestive problems, sometimes they also can have hair balls which cause problems. Without a hands-on exam it is not possible to recommend a medication. Do not give any antibiotics to your rabbit or any other human medicine. Oral antibiotics are likely to kill the bacteria a rabbit needs for digestion and she will die. Try to find some hay, dry grass. Maybe there is a veterinarian in the next town who can help you.

its a little hard to know the answer to your question because I don't know the concentration of the cisapride. This medication is compounded, so the concentration (the milligrams(mg) of drug in a cc ) can vary. The typical recommended dose for cisapride in rabbits is 0.5mg/kg every 6-12 hours. If your bunny weights 2.5 pounds, that is just over 1kg, so a recommended dose would be about 0.5mg. As long as you don't exceed 2mg in a 24 hour period, I don't think you need to worry. It looks as though this product is 2% w/v, which translates to 20mg moxidectin per ml. Based on that information, Moyel would receive 0.029ml according to your vet's directions. The Quest gel is labeled for exclusive use in horses and clearly states that it should not be used in other species. As a result, I would inquire further with your vet as to their planned course of treatment. Even if they feel comfortable prescribing this medication in an off-label fashion (which is commonly done!), the volume of medication appropriate for Moyel is so minuscule that it's next to impossible to achieve accurate dosing. I would instead ask if they have recommendations for topical treatments of moxidectin or selamectin if they're more comfortable using those medications rather than injectable ivermectin. Hello. So sorry to hear that Goliath is having this issue. I would recommend you STOP giving the Meloxicam right away and I would honestly take him in to an emergency vet clinic to be seen right away. I think his dose of Meloxicam is quite high and it may be upsetting his stomach and could be causing some damage to his kidneys. With my calculations he should have been getting 7.5mg once a day, not twice. I would recommend he go in for some bloodwork to check his kidney values and get some additional medications to protect his stomach lining. If his kidney values are elevated he may need to be hospitalized so he can be on fluids to flush out his kidneys. I don't want to scare you but this could be a pretty serious issue. I wouldn't wait too long to have him seen. The longer you wait, the more damage that could be done to his body. I hope this was helpful. I am hoping for the best for Goliath. Dr. Amber
