Is it safe to bathe my cat after she just gave birth and is dirty?

It is best to use gloves and to handle her as little as possible. So a quick towel change is ok, then allow her to nurse her kittens uninterrupted, because too much handling can lead to complications.

Once the kittens are eating mostly solid food, which they should be able to do now, you can go ahead and bathe her. At this stage they will still know to nurse, and they will gradually reduce the nursing anyway when they are eating solid food. I would not bathe the kittens (dip in water and use shampoo) but would just use a moist wash cloth (luke warm) and wipe them down. Then give them back to mommy who will lick them dry. Be careful when handling the kittens as they may be very scared and bite, especially if they were not handled before.

The kittens appear to still be in their individual amniotic sacs. An inexperienced or first time mother may not know to remove them from the sac. They may have been stillborn or could have died shortly after birth. Have Azula examined by your veterinarian to confirm no more kittens remain inside. Her milk will not come in or will dry up without kittens to nurse. You can bathe her or use pet wipes or unscented baby wipes to clean her up. Consider having her spayed in a few weeks to prevent a recurrence or accidental/unwanted litters in the future.

You can give her a bath at any time! A soothing shampoo with aloe or oatmeal can help keep her skin from becoming too dry. If she doesn't like the bath, you can also use pet or baby wipes to wipe down any very dirty areas, or even a wet washcloth with a little waterless shampoo sprayed onto it.

The stitches have to be kept dry, so no Cleo cannot have a bath. She should not be allowed to roll around it the mud while she is healing, so I would keep her indoors until it's time for the stitches to come out. Try to remove the mud with a soft wash cloth.
