Where exactly should I apply my cat's spot-on flea treatment?

I would recommend that you avoid applying any spot on flea prevention product in any area that Delilah may be able to reach by grooming as ingestion of the product could make her unwell. Applying the product to the back of the neck only would be adequate and will keep her safe. You should note that over the counter flea prevention sold in supermarkets and pet shops is often ineffective and if you are experiencing a persistent or recurring flea problem I would recommend using a product prescribed by your veterinarian. I would also recommend treating your house for fleas using a product such as Indorex for example to ensure that there is nothing persisting in the environment that could be causing reintroduction of fleas to Delilah. It would also be recommended to use a product on a regular basis i.e. monthly for ongoing flea prevention.

Could you tell us what kind of ointment you are using, as there are several different types. If you are talking about a spot-on, the way to apply it is as follows: Open the tube with the spot on. Part the hair directly between the shoulder blades so you can see the skin. Keep the fur parted, take the tube with the spot-on and set the tip of it onto the skin and squeeze the content out. You can gently spread the liquid around on the skin. Do not touch it and make sure your dog does not reach the spot ....some dogs are contortion artists. If Mick seems to manage reaching the spot, put a t-shirt on him for a few hours so the medication can dry.

Hi! I'm still here! Sometimes it may take me some time to see a question, especially if I haven't been on in a bit. So the best place to put the Advantage is on the back of Kitty's head. It won't travel down far enough for her to lick it. Do not rub it in, the medication will come off on your fingers and she won't get the full dose needed to protect her. I wouldn't do any other location than the back of the head, as she will be able to lick it off between her shoulder blades and her back for example. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach! If you are referencing to flea and tick spot on and your dog being active, are you concerned he will rub it off once you put it on? If that is the case, nexgard and bravecto are 2 great oral products that would not need to worry about being rubbed off. You will need a prescription for these 2 though. Most fleas live off the pet, necessitating the treatment of the environment as part of management. This includes vacuuming everywhere then disposing of the bag or emptying the canister outdoors immediately afterwards. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable. Use a cat safe area treatment to prevent reinfestation. A topical should be used for at least three consecutive months, preferably year round.

The hair has likely not grown back in this area since it became scar tissue following the wound and does not have normal hair follicles anymore. I recommend applying your topical flea treatment in another area of her body, ie, along her back between her shoulder blades, where there is normal skin and hair. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Revolution can be applied every 4 weeks. There is also Bravecto which is a topical that lasts 3 months. The Seresto collar lasts 8 months and comfortis is a monthly pill. For the last 2 there is no application error which is nice. Otherwise, part the fur to the skin and apply the contents of the Revolution to that spot and then put the hair back. It is normal for some of the liquid to go down over the hair. Maybe try the base of her skull or shoulder blade area so it doesn't go down the sides. I hope this helps!
