My horse is lonely and paces. How can I safely socialize him?

That is very sad. Horses are social animals and bond with each other, and other animals. I would move her to be with another animal or move another horse to be close with her. A pony or mini or donkey or calf or goat will work too. She needs someone she can spend time with and look after. That will give her a new lease on life and perk her up. Hello. First, know that this is normal behavior. Mares especially can be aggressive to geldings & even other mares. It can take several days to up to 3 months for everyone to settle down. If possible, the horses should be separated where they can see, smell & possibly touch each other, but can flee if the situation requires it. If you can not place the horses in adjacent paddocks, they should have separate resources far enough apart so that no guarding occurs. 2 water sources & feeding far enough apart ( or confining the mare ) until all grain is consumed & for up to 20 minutes after is necessary. Once the gelding has finished & is grazing quietly, you can release the mare. If any of the horses are wearing shoes, pulling them temporarily may prevent significant injury. If the behavior does not seem to at least be calming down in another week or so, you may need to have your mare evaluated for an ovarian problem or even granulosa cell tumor. These can cause significant hormonal changes in mares resulting in almost stallion type behavior. Have patience, a week is only a short time to try to buddy up two horses. I recommend taking a bucket of grain or treats, and approach him very slowly and quietly. If you do not feel safe, then do not approach him. You may be able to lure him back to a pen with food without ever touching him.

I am afraid , that if you put your filly in with the stallion he may try to cover her and hurt her. I do not recommend this. You may want to board the filly where it can grow up amongst other foals and learn proper socialisation without having to worry about being bothered by the stallion.

You can fence in your property or a small section for your dog. A tie out with a long lead can also work for exercise. Lastly, leash walking and correcting the behavior immediately may help. Walk with him by the horses regularly so he becomes acclimated to their presence. Be patient and be consistent.

It sounds like Anchor may be chasing Lucy because he thinks she is in heat. Lucy is not receptive to his attention because she probably is not in estrus quite yet. This should resolve in the next few days as Lucy moves through her cycle. If it does not discontinue it could suggest an underlying hormone producing ovarian mass and you will need to have Lucy checked out by a veterinarian.

Hello, poor Fiddle! He seems to be very scared by other dogs. I think the best way to approach this is by introducing him to dogs that are not overtly playful and pushy in a neutral environment. That is, you may meet with a dog you know is calm and low energy in a park just to have the other dog be around Fiddle to see if he tolerates this. Obviously, avoid any situation which makes Fiddle scared or nervous and don't encourage his fearful behavior with any rewards such as talking to him, carrying him, or petting him as this may equivocally teach him that it is ok to be afraid of other pets. Ultimately, if you're having a really hard time with Fiddle, you may need to have him evaluated by a behaviorist as it is never too late to work with them on improving a behavior. Hope this helps.
